First animal in space by USA
U.S. scientists, who were involved, decided to send a monkey into space. The monkey's name was Albert 1. They wanted to see what would happen to the animal and the effects of radiation of high altitude. -

The USSR launched a satellite called Sputnik. It stunned most of the western world. The word "Sputnik" meant "fellow traveler". The Soviet Union were involved in it, so they got engineers and scientists to make a satellite that can orbit the Earth and shock the world. -

Laika was the first animal in Space. It was launched on board and the spacecraft was called Sputnik 2. The Soviet Government actually came up with the idea.
