    The first Seaside Resort was the Scarborough Spa and the town. Travelling to beach resorts were overpriced until steamboats were invented in the early 1800's and that's what piers were made for when the steamboats were entering and leaving.

The pronouncement of the Grand Tour goes back to a 17th century travel writer and Catholic Priest Richard Lassels who used it in his guidebook called The Voyage of Italy, published in 1670. The Grand Tour attracted people and was somewhere for them to experience creations they had never seen before. I've found out from the website that men were forced to study to get closer to the Queen from the art that was put in The Grand Tour.

They also helped tourism grow as they weren't as expensive as driving so it was more efficient for people to catch a train rather than drive.

    The first travel agencies were established around the 19th century. In the 19th century, only automobile and small planes were a thing. However, now technology has become more advanced and everything is much safer. For example, Thomas Cook was famous for launching a travel company and organised his first trip in 1841, which marked the beginning of commercial tourism.

    Vladimir Raitz was the first person to pioneer mass package holidays abroad. Vlad started off with flying 11 passengers to Corsica, then led to further countries such as Malaga, Mallorca and the Costa Brava which then became one of the UK's biggest tour operators in the process.

    Vlad was a Russian-born British businessman who co-founded the Horizon Holiday Group which was one of the earliest businesses to offer chartered, all-inclusive holidays and subsequently to be followed by many others. Vladimir Raitz was then honored in 1995 by the British Travel and Hospitality Hall of fame.

    The first holiday camp came out in the 1930s which was aimed at the goring low income market. This camp was called Butlins. Butlins Skegness was the first of Billy Butlin's holiday camps. The camp opened in 1936 but was taken over for military use in 1939 and was then known as HMS Royal Arthur. The camp then re-opened to holiday makers in 1946.

    The holidays with pay act was passed in 1938. In the 1950s, some people would work up to 57+ hours a week, nowadays we work around 37 if not more. Tom Man's eight hour league in 1886 pressure traded unions to move towards an 8 hour day which was previously a 10-16 hour day. Then the EU time directive in 1998 stepped in and people no longer had to work more than 48 hours a week but they did have a choice to if they wanted to.
