In 1865, Carnegie left the railroad business and founded his own company that made railroad bridges from iron.

In 1872, Andrew created his first steel mill.

By the year 1899, Carnegie consolidated into "The Carnegie Steel Company." After doing such, his company had a quarter of all American iron and steel production.

In 1901, two years after consolidating into the Carnegie Steel Company, Andrew retired. He dedicated the final years of his life to helping the public with the wealth he generated.
