The Boeing 727.
The Boeing 727 was first introduced in 1963, and has since became one of the most successful jetliners in the world, this had a huge effect on the Travel and Torusim sector as many companies wanted to compete with it and many frequent flyers want to fly on it. This led to a huge demand for more planes such as the Boeing 727. Today the Boeing 727's design has been used to manufacture more like it, mainly because it was so fast and could carry much more passengers than earlier planes. -
Development of Tourism Act.
The Development of Tourism Act was an act that established tourist boards for England, Scotland and Wales. The act allowed England, Scotland and Wales to promote itselfs, and use public funds for the building of hotels or any tourist attractions that would help increase th tourism in the UK,this led to the creation of VisitBritain, VisitScotland and VisitWales. -
Package Holidays.
The first package holiday, as we know it, was organized in 1949 by Vladimir Raitz, he flew 32 passengers to Corsica and charged them £32.50 each, but not many people could afford package holidays, they later became hugely popular in the 70's, as people figured out they could have somebody organize their holiday for them. Today, package holidays are provided by almost every tour operator as they are a huge selling point and people can afford them. -
High-speed Trains.
The first high-speed train network was made in France during the 70's, it is called the 'Train a Grande Vitesse' network. It was first made to link parts of France together, but it has now expanded to link other countries to it, such as England and Germany. This had a huge impact as it is one of the fastest trains in the world, which makes it easier for people to travel. -
The Transport Act.
The Transport Act of 1980 ended licensing regulations for coaches and tours over 30 miles, this led to competition between public travel companies and private travel companies. It allowed any travel company to be able to go anywhere, instead of being limited to only 30 miles which created a lot more tour operators in the UK alone. -
Deregulation of EU Air Travel.
Deregulation of EU air travel began in 1987, before this a UK Airline was not allowed to have an airport base anywhere else in the EU, and could only travel from the UK and back to the UK. This mean't that EU airlines could establish themselves in any part of Europe, which gave airlines the chance to have bases all around the world, and led to the development of low-cost airlines, because they could fly anywhere around the world and stop at their bases. -
The Channel Tunnel.
The Channel Tunnel finally opened in 1994, this had a huge effect on the Travel and Tourism sector as it created a much easier way to get from Britain to France. The Channel Tunnel leads from Folkstone to Calais, it had a huge effect on the Travel and Tourism sector as a lot of people who wanted to go to France had to fly there, or go on a Ferry. The tunnel decreased the market for ferries to France by around 50%. It is now used everyday by thousands of people that can easily go to France. -
The First Super Plane.
The Airbus A380 was first used by Singapore Airlines on a trip to Sydney in 2007. This had a huge impact on the Travel and Tourism sector as it was one of the biggest planes in the world that could seat 800 passengers. Today, Super planes are used all over the world and have been developed even further to be able to hold more passengers and get to the destination quicker. -
Self Check-in at Airports.
Air New Zealand were the first Airport to offer self check-in, where passengers could check in just 10 minutes before boarding. Self check in mean't that people who had booked online could just put their tickets into a machine at the airport, choose their seats and then board the plane if they had no luggage to send through onto the plane. This had a huge effect on the Travel and Tourism sector as it shortened queues and you did not have to wait as long to check in. -
Super Ships.
The first super ship ever made was called the 'Bateau a Grande Vitesse' (BGV) and was first sailed in 2008, it could turn journeys of 20 hous to under 9 hours. This had a huge affect on the Travel and Tourism sector as people wanted a shorter journey, which caused competition between companies as the BGV was one of the fastest ferries in the world. Today, ferries are a hugely popular way of transportation for people who hate flying, they have also been developed to carry more passengers.
