Started being built in 1811. It is also called the National Road. First federal highway in the United States. One of the main routes to Northwest Territory. -

Gold is discovered in Cherokee Nation
Georgia told the Cherokee Indains they could not mine for gold. First gold rush in America. Brought many white men to the Cherokee land. -
Georgia Nullifies all Cherokee Law
On December 2, the Georgia legislature passes a law withdrawing the right of occupancy on the land by the Cherokee and requiring their removal to the West. In the preamble the real reasons for their actions so that no one would think it is for greed for the land or hatred of the red skin, and no wars or fights broke out. -
Indian Removal Act
An act that Andrew Jackson passed that said that all Indians will relocated to new Indian Territory. It killed many Indians in the process. -
Choctaw, Creek, and Chickasaw Removal
Choctaw signed a treaty that made them the first Native American tribe to be removed. Creek Indians also signed a treaty which gave them a small strip of land. The Chicksaw were offered 3$ million and were not paid for nearly 30 years. -
Cherokee Nation v Georgia
Was a supreme court case. Cherokee won, the supreme court said Georgia can not pass a law that takes away the Cherokees rights. -
Trail of Tears
Relocation of many Native Americans. Relocated the Cherokee, Muscogee, Seminole, Chickasaw, and Choctaw nations. Traveled 800 miles with nothing to Indian Territory which is now called Oklahoma. -
Worchester v Georgia
Conviction of Samuel Worchester because he was present on Cherokee land. Supreme court said Georgia cant arrest him for that. -
