  • World War 1

    The British join in World War 1, and by proxy Canada too is then fighting. This causes Canada to prepare for war. 0
  • Canada Enlisting

    Canada begins enlisting most of its eligible men to participate in fighting in World War 1. Sometimes up to 50% of the men in all the provinces would be taken away to fight in the war. -1
  • War Artists

    During the war many wanted to see what was happening in the war, and the war artists helped achieve that. Many artists were able to help get their name out there by created art works related to the war, and cinematography really began to take off during this time as well. +1
  • Women in the work force

    Women to help in the war efforts begin wokring some mens jobs, including factory work and farming jobs. +1
  • Taxes

    Canada adds an income tax to those who earn wages. These taxes earn money to help in funding the war efforts. These kind of taxes didn't end when the war did however, and continue currently. 0
  • Jeremiah Jones

    Jeremiah Jones was a black man who served in World War 1. He was a main contributor in Canada winning its greatest success. He was one of 16 black soldiers deployed in World War 1. He was able to prove that black men could help in a white mens army. +2
  • Conscription

    The Canadian government requires by law that all males aged between 20-45 should be sent off to fight in the war. This especially affected French-Canadians who felt this war wasnt about them and that they shouldnt be involved. -1
  • Mae Belle Sampson

    Mae Belle Samspon, a nurse from the Hamilton area is deployed to serve as a nurse in World War 1. She manages to treat thousands of people with little equipment and proves very helpful. However, while working on the Llandovery Castle, the ship is hit with a torpedo, and she ends up passing away. +2
  • The War Comes To A Close

    World War 1 ends when Germany surrenders. This marks the end of just over 4 years of death and destruction. +2
  • The Roaring 20's

    A post war economy led to a rise in mood after the war ended. This was a time characterized by a general sense of fun and happiness. +2
