    The year when common people starting really thinking and caring more. They had ideas concerning nature, God, and reason. They started having philosophies of art and politics. They wanted knowledge, freedom, and happiness.

    A North America conflict between Great Britain and France. Both sides supported by tons of native American tribes. The war stemmed from many different overlapping claims to the Ohio River Valley and tons of other territories.

    A secret underground resistance group in America. It was made to protest and resist all British policies. Really unfair taxation.
  • Stamp Act of 1765

    Stamp Act of 1765

    A British law that directly taxed on the American Colonies. They had to pay a tax on every printed material. It had to be payed in British hard currency.
  • Townshend Acts

    Townshend Acts

    A lot of British laws passed that imposed tons of taxes on goods imported into the American colonies. It initiated taxes on glass , lead, paper, paint, and tea. Plus other everyday needs.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Native Americans pretended to be British and boarded the British ships. They dumped 342 boxes of tea into the Boston Harbor. They were protesting because of "Taxation without representation".

    It was when 12 of the 13 of the American colonies came together. They discussed what they thought were oppressive acts. Mostly the Intolerable acts.
  • Battles of Lexington & Concord

    Battles of Lexington & Concord

    It was the first military engagements of the American Revolutionary War. They wanted to seize colonial weapons and arrest rebel leaders. The British were eventually forced to retreat back to Bostons under fire.

    Second Continental Congress meets

    They met to discuss and plan future plans if the British government doesn't play their part. By the time congress met again the war had already started. They established the currency.
  • Battle of Bunker Hill

    Battle of Bunker Hill

    The American Patriots were defeated in the battle. But they proved the could hold their own. The fight confirmed that there was no longer any reconciliation possible.
  • Olive Branch Petition sent to England

    Olive Branch Petition sent to England

    Showing the colonists loyalty to the British Crown. Looking for a peaceful solution to the conflict with Great Britain. The King refused to even read or look at the Olive branch petition.
  • Thomas Paine’s Common Sense published

    Thomas Paine’s Common Sense published

    It was a 47 paged document. It helped sway the 13 colonies toward independence. 120,000 copies were sold in the span of 3 months.
  • Articles of Confederation created

    Articles of Confederation created

    It became the 1st constitution of the United States. The document showed a league of friendship. And a weak central government.
  • Great Compromise

    Great Compromise

    It resolved the conflict between small and large states. The compromise put a bicameral legislative. A crucial agreement reached.
  • Bill of Rights adopted

    Bill of Rights adopted

    3/4's of the states had ratified 10 of the Bill of Rights. They assumed those rights to be unquestionable. James Madison wrote the Bill of Rights.
