One education committee was created by bringing together several groups: the United Way of Jackson County’s Education Community Solutions Team, the Jackson Community Foundation’s Legacy Scholarship Program Committee, the Jackson County Education Team, the Great Start Collaborative of Jackson County, the Promise Zone and the Jackson Citizens for Economic Growth Education team. This unified committee became what is now the Jackson County Cradle to Career Coordinating Council.

Cradle 2 Career has its public kickoff with a signing ceremony at the Michigan Theatre. Eighteen community leaders signed the Community Agenda, and dozens more showed their support by signing the C2C banner and joining School Success Action Teams

Action teams formed as part of C2C begin to meet. C2C relies on six School Success Action Teams to develop and apply strategies to address students’ educational challenges. The teams are Early Childhood, Elementary, Middle School, High School, Post-Secondary and Community Engagement.

Jackson County Intermediate School District and all county superintendents agree to joint funding of the College and Career Access Center for a 3-year commitment.

A new pilot program, called Career Exploration Lunch, begins at Vandercook Lake Middle School. Students in sixth-eighth grades have the opportunity to talk with students at the Jackson Area Career Center, as well as professionals working in those careers in Jackson County.
