The mob that was searching for gunpowder and weapons bombed the Bastille prison in Paris. After this, there was a wave of panic in France called the Great Fear. Since the storming of the Bastille Prison, that day has been declared as France's National Holiday.

Because of fear, noblemen made speeches that declared their love for the idea of liberty & equality. They then joined the members of National Assembly & supported the idea of sweeping away the privileges of the first & second estates in order to make everyone equal. The Old Regime dies as well as the divisions between states ended.

Parisian women rioted in Versailles over the price of Bread. They demanded that the National Assembly should take action to provide bread. Then, they turned their anger to the king & queen and broke into the palace after killing the guards. They demanded that King Louis and Antoinette should return to Paris.

The National Assembly made many reformations during this time period. They took over church lands and priests were to be elected and paid as state officials. In addition to this, the National Assembly wanted to make the church a part of the state, which made some people angry. The Civil Constitution of the Clergy was passed.

The Royal family tried to escape to the Austrian Netherlands, but they are arrested in the border of France and taken to Paris.

The National Assembly completed the new constitution which created a limited monarchy and created a new legislative body, the Legislative Assembly.

The Legislative Assembly declared a war to Austria and Prussia who urged the French to restore Louis to his position as an absolute monarchy. This was because Austria and Prussia believed that if France has their monarch overthrown, then the citizens might also overthrow the monarch too.

A new governing body, the National Convention was created. It abolished the monarchy and declared France a Republic.
