Estates-General Gathering
The Estates-General gathered for the first time in 175 years to approve the new tax law. This meeting took place at Versailles. -
Start of the National Assembly
The day when the National Assembly was voted into existence by the Third Estate. First deliberate act of the revolution. -
Bastille Day
The day a mob of French people attacked and entered the French prison, the Bastille. There they searched for gunpowder and arms. They seized the building for themselves. -
Destruction of the Old Regime
The night when the Old Regime was demolished because of words and powerful speeches on their passions of liberty and equality. By morning commoners were equal to noblemen and the clergy.The Old Regime was dead by morning. -
France's Statement of Revolutionary Ideas
In which the National Assembly supported new revolutionary ideals and statements called the Righs of Man. These statements included: “‘men are born and remain free and equal in rights.’” Guaranteed citizens equal justice, freedom of speech and freedom of religion. Also stated rights to liberty, property, security and the resistance to oppression. -
Women's March on Versailles
The day where women rioted over the expensive prices put on bread. They demanded bread from the National Assembly, then broke into the palace to demand that the king and queen returned to Paris. -
A New Church
The year of 1790 was when the Church set up a new establishment and was considered a “Controlled Church.” The Civil Constitution of Clergy was passed on this day. The Church became part of the government and helped them pay of lots of debts. There was also a year long reformation in France. -
A Failed Escape
When the royal family tried to escape from France to the Austrian Netherlands but they were arrested at the border and brought back to Paris. The country no longer cared for the king and the queen. -
The New Constitution
When a new constitution was completed and reluctantly accepted by King Louis. This took away much of the king’s powers and created a Legislative Assembly. -
A Declaration of War
Month were the French declared war on Austria and Prussia. This was done because European countries were afraid that their people would revolt against them and so they urged the French to reinstate Louis as King. -
Removing the Legislative Assembly
With the craziness, radicalness and extremeness going on in Paris, the Legislative Assembly was removed and so was the constitution of 1791. This created the National Convention that made France a republic. This leads into the Reign of Terror.
