Under the control of King Leopold II of Belgium, estimates of 5 - 21 million people killed.The Democratic Republic of the Congo were tortured and slaughtered by soldiers who forced them into slave labour, and raped the women. -
Armenian Genocide
The Armenian Genocide occured during 1915 to 1917. The Turkish slaughtered Armenian Christians of the Ottaman Empire and said it was a revolution, not a genocide. 1.5 million of them which were men, women and children were murdered. -
The Ukrainian Famine
The starvation, lead by Stalin, of over six million Ukrainians. It was a man made famine against the Ukrainian peasants. The famine ended in 1933. -
Rape of Nanking
During the second Sino-Japanese War, 300,000 people were murdered out of 600,000 people. 20,000 to 80,000 women were raped then slaughtered by the Imperial Japanese Army. Thus, calling it the Rape of Nanking. -
The Holocaust
The Holocaust was the systematic persecution and murder of approximately six million Jews by the Nazis. The Nazis believed that Germans were "racially superior" and that the Jews, deemed "inferior." The Jews were sent to concentration camps to be exterminated or slaved. 6 million Jews and 5 million others died. Genocide ended on May 8, 1945 when the U.S. and the Allied Forces defeated the Nazis. -
Cambodian Genocide
Under Pol Pot's leadership, the khmer rouge embarked on their ruthless extremist campaign; to cleanse Cambodia, thus leading to the execution of the people. Under threat of death, people were forced to leave. The ill, disabled, old and young were driven out, regardless of their physical condition. Approximatly 1-3 million were killed. -
Genocide in Iraq
Saddam Hussein displayes his brutality through his genocidal acts towards the Kurds in Iraq. By using chemical weapons such as poisonous gas. Thus, killing 50,000 to 100,000 Kurds. -
Bosnian Genocide
Bosnian Serb forces began to murder Muslims and minorities in Bosnia when independence was declared. The Bosnian Serbs eliminated Muslims when they advanced from one village to the next. This lead to 200,000 people dead and over 2 million people fled as refugees. This genocide ended in 1995. -
Rwandan Genocide
There were two main ethnic groups, the Hutu and the Tutsis. The Tutsis were considered the ruling class. The Hutu majority gained power, killing the Tutsis, many who fled and formed a rebel army. The Tutsi rebels invaded Rwanda and forced the Hutu President to accept a power-sharing agreemen. The Tutsi rebels defeated the Hutus. Thus, stopping the genocide. -
Genocide in Uganda
The Ugandan genocide continued after the end of the Idi Amin regime. The Lord's Resistance Army began violent acts on the Acholi tribe. The people of Uganda have encountered violations of human rights and peace right from the time of its independence. Approximatly 300,000 civialians died. -
Genocide in Darfur
In 2003, two Darfur rebel movements, the Sudan Liberation Army and the Justice and Equality Movement took up arms against the Sudanese government, causing the Sudanese government to defensively attack the rebel groups. Using their mercenary police force, Janjaweed. However, the Janjaweed had killed and raped many civilians.
