    This marked the end of the " separate but equal". This was a milestone marking the decision that seperating children in public schools based on race was unconstitutional.
  • Educational Amendments Act

    This act allowed federal money to be provided to schools for exceptional learners. It provides funding to states to have gifted and talented student programs available. For special education, this act allowed students and parents to receive due process in their special education placement.
  • Education for All Handicapped Children Act

    Education for All Handicapped Children Act
    This enactment was a significant turning point in the history of special education. This law ensures that students with disabilities are able to receive free, adequate public education. It also gave federal financing to support services and programs for students with special needs.
  • Child Find Mandate

    Child Find Mandate
    The Child Find Mandate requires all school districts to identify, locate and evaluate all students with disabilities. This is mandated no matter the severity of the disability.     Least Restrictive Environment (LRE)
    This concept is established under the IDEA. It enables students the opportunity to be educated alongside their peers if at all possible, depending upon placement. This maximizes social and academic opportunities for students with disabilities.

    Vocational Education Act
    Allows states to authorize federal funds to support vocational education programs that are required to meet the special needs of students or adults with disabilities.
  • Americans with Disabilities Act

    Americans with Disabilities Act
    The ADA protects students with disabilities from discrimination. This includes educations and schools, employment, public accommodations, transportation, and daily living.     Placed by the Individuals with Disabilities Education act, which requires schools to have IEP plans for students with disabilities. Provides more rights for students with disabilities, ensuring necessary processes for special education.

    This law mandated that all public schools must educate all students, including individuals with disabilities. This law ensures that all students have yearly growth. This legislation helps the requirement for accountability in students with disabilities being educated the same as other students.
  • Every Student Suceeds Act

    Every Student Suceeds Act
