Martin's parents were Hans Luder and Margarethe. Martin Luther was born on November 10th 1483 in Eisleben Germany. He was baptized as a Catholic the next morning after his birth.

His family moved to Mansfeld in 1484. Martin's father was a leaseholder of smelters and copper mines. Martin's mother was a hard-worker, of trading-class stcok and middling means,
Martin Luther had several brothers and sisters, but he was only close to one of them, Jacob. -
Martin's father wanted him to be a lawyer. He sent him to Mansfeld and then Magdeburg in 1497.

He attended a school in Magdeburg operated by a lay group called the Brethren of the Common Life, and Eisenach in 1498.

In 1501, at 19 years old, Martin entered the University of Erfurt.
His schedule called for waking at four every morning for what has been described as "a day of rote learning and often wearying spiritual exercises. -
In 1505, Martin recieved his master's degree. He enrolled for law school in the same university, because it was his fathers dream for his son. Martin practically dropped immediately.

On July 2nd, 1505 Martin Luther was on horseback during a thunderstorm, lightning bolt struck near him as he was returning to university from home. He was so terrfied he cried out "HELP, Saint Anna, I'll become a monk." It was something he couldn't break. Martin left law school, and sold his books.

He entered a closed Augustinian friary in Erfurt on 17 July 1505.
A friend of Martin's blamed his decision on Martin's sadness over the death of his two friends. -
In 1507, Martin Luther was ordained to the priesthood. Luther dedicated himself to monastic life, devoting himself to fasting, long hours in prayer, pilgrimage, and frequent confession. Johann von Staupitz, his superior, concluded that Luther needed more work to distract him from excessive introspection and ordered him to pursue an academic career.

Martin began teaching theology at the University of Wittenberg in 1508.

He received a Bachelor's degree in Biblical studies on March 9th, 1508.

Martin's second Bachelor's degree was in the Sentences by Peter Lombard in 1509.

On 15 June 1520, the Pope warned Luther with the papal bull.
he risked excommunication unless he recanted 41 sentences drawn from his writings, including the 95 Theses, within 60 days. -
On August 1st, 1521, Luther wrote to Melanchthon on the same theme: "Be a sinner, and let your sins be strong, but let your trust in Christ be stronger, and rejoice in Christ who is the victor over sin, death, and the world.

Around 8:00 February 17th, 1546, Martin Luther was complaining about chest pains. he prayed before he went to bed for the lord to keep him safe. Martin got hot towels to ease his pain.

Martin Luther died on February 18th, 1546. He died in his birth town in Eisleben, Germany. The picture is of a cast of Luther's hands and face. He died at age 62, he was battling illness for years. Martin Luther's last statement was found on a peice of paper. It said " We are beggars." Which was written in German.
