To enforce the Townshed Act British troops were stationed in Boston. In the event of the Boston Masacre a crowd of colonists began to torment and harass the soldiers. One of the British troops fired into the crowd. The other troops immediately did the same sensing danger. After the event five colonists were dead and many wounded. Paul Revere used this event to his advantage to make drawings in the news showing the British attacking colonists.

This was a raid on three British ships in Boston Harbor (December 16, 1773) in which Boston colonists, disguised as Indians, threw the contents of several hundred chests of tea into the harbor as a protest against British taxes on tea and against the monopoly granted the East India Company.
