Balfour Declaration
Many nations were under the impression that Great Britain was creating a Jewish state in the Middle East. Balfour declared his support of this Jewish state and his statement was supported by many of the Allies. The Arabs, on the other hand, also felt entilted to the land because they'd also been promised it. The result: The land was mandated to Britain rule. Both Jews and Arabs were unhappy with this decision.
Relation to Middle East: This mandate would soon lead to the division of Israel. -
Palestine Becomes British Mandate
Following Balfour Declaration the tension between Jews and Arabs and the unstability of the nation led to the mandate of the Palestine region. This put the area in British control. Britain soon gave this control up to the UN due to their vast and spread array of land. This led to the UN giving control to mainly Jews and angring the Arabs. This also led to Israel's offically becoming a state.
Relation to Middle East: Because the US supported the Jewish rule, we become a target of the Arabs. -
Holocaust
The Holocaust started in 1933 when Hitler came into power and coninued through out the 40's. This was the terrifying genocide of Jews living within Germany and territories of Germany.
Relation to Middle East: The Holocaust is an example of a genocide that occured in Europe. Anit-semitism played a large role in the cause of this event and led to many issues. -
Six Day War
Israel seizes the Gaza Strip and the Sinai Peninsula from Egypt, Golan Heights from Syria, and the West Bank and Eastern Jerusalem from Jordan.
Relation to Middle East: This short war was one of four wars that followed directly after Israel became a state. Israel was always backed by the US and always won each war leaving the Arabs angry with the US and with little land to flee to. -
Yom Kippur War
Egypt and Syria attack Israel in hopes of regaining land taken from them in the 6 day war.
Relation to Middle East: The US once again backs up Israel in support of their new independence and in empathy for the jews recent expiriences in the Holocaust. Israel wins AGAIN and this entire war lasts throughout both Yom Kippur and Ramadan. -
Arab Oil Embargo
As a result of the US helping Israel win all of the four Arab-Israeli Wars, the Arabs set up an Oil Embargo against the US.
Relation to The Middle East: The US is forced to either look for new energy sources or new oil sources. This leads to the Alaskan Pipeline. -
Jimmy Carter Becomes President
Jimmy Carter's inauguration.
Relation to The Middle East: Carter leads Camp David Accords which gives Israel Egypts acceptance and Egypt back Siani. Bu it also leaves the Arabs very unhappy with Egypt. -
Alaskan Pipeline
A pipeline built to transport oil from Alaska to the rest of the US when the Arabs sent out an oil embargo against us.
Relation to The Middle East: This has connections to the 2000 presidential debate as well as the idea of an econocentric foreign policy. -
Camp David Accords
Following the oil embargo the US was looking for ways to find peace among the Plalestinians and the Iraelis. Carter, Israel Prime Minister, and President of Egypt met and agreed to the Camp David Accords. Egypt agreed to recognize Israel's independence and Israel returned Siani. The Arabs were not happy with this.
Relation to Middle East: This was another attempt at peace with in the middle east. -
Iran Hostage Crisis Begins
On November 4, 1979, an angry mob of young Islamic revolutionaries overran the U.S. Embassy in Tehran, taking more than 60 Americans hostage. -
Soviets Invade Afghanistan
The Soviet Union sends thousands of troops into Afghanistan and immediately assumed complete military and political control of Kabul and large portions of the country.
Relation to Middle East: This take over caused the US to act on the Truman Doctrine and turn against Afghanistan which would only cause futher issues as we tried to push the SU from the region. -
Iran Hostage Crisis Ends
After many failed attempts to get the release of the hostages by Carter, (including embargos, economic preassure, and a failed rescue mission) the Iranians finally released them on January 20th after Reagan's inauguration.
Relation to Middle East: Following Israel becoming a state, the US was very supportive of the independence created and very supportive of the Jewish rule. This angered the Arabs living in and around this region and caused many little revolts like this one. -
Ronald Reagan Becomes President

Relation to Middle East:Following the Israeli invasion of Lebanon in June 1982, Reagan dispatched 800 Marines to join an international force to oversee the evacuation of Palestinian guerrillas from West Beirut, then surrounded by Israeli troops. After Israel withdrew its troops from the Beirut area in September 1983, the Marine contingent remained—along with forces from Italy, France, and Britain—to protect the fragile Lebanese government. -

Relation to The Middle East: When the invasion began in the Desert Storm, Arab countries joined with the United States to form a coalition to convince Iraq to withdraw from Kuwait or face the consequences. This all happened under Bush's administration. -

Relation in The Middle East: Iraq accused Kuwait of taking more than their fair share of the oil owned by both nations. Iraq invaded Kuwait and the USA was forced to step in as well as a few other nations simply becuase this was the oil that they bought and needed as well. -

Relation to Middle East: The Bill Clinton administration noticed the world had entered a period in which economic competition was eclipsing ideological rivalry and changed our Foreign Policy to an Econocentric approach. (This was: The protection of our natural resources no matter what the cost.) -
World Trade Center 1993
A truck bomb was detonated below the North Tower of the World Trade Center in New York City.
Relation to The Middle East:Ramzi Yousef directed the organization and execution of the bombing. He said he did it to avenge the sufferings Palestinian people had endured at the hands of U.S.-aided Israel. -
Centrazbat 1997
Largest airborne operation in history. Us sends troops to Kazakhistan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. Other participating nations include Russia, Ukraine, Turkey, United Kingdom, Georgia, Azerbaijan, and Mongolia. US states it's just checking the nations for peace but that is not entirely true.
Relation to The Middle East: The US wanted to ensure that the vast amount of oil found in these countries would one day flow to the west. -
Embassy Bombing in Tanzania
U.S. embassies in Nairobi, Kenya, and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, were bombed by terrorists, leaving 258 people dead and more than 5,000 injured.

Relation to Middle East: This was an attack on the US simply because of our support against the Arab's rule. This attack was one of many to come and our retaliation with missles likely caused further issues to form. -
U.S.S. Cole
a suicide attack against the United States Navy guided-missile destroyer USS Cole while it was harbored and being refueled in the Yemeni port of Aden. 17 American sailors were killed, and 39 were injured.
Relation to The Middle East:The Gulf of Aden is a vital waterway for shipping, especially for Persian Gulf oil, making it an integral waterway in the world economy. -

Throughout the many years held within this span Iraq has been a very being trouble maker in the scheme of things. whether it was oil, car bombings, bombings in general, terrorist support, or full on attacks, the struggle to calm the Iraq people is still continuing today and looks as though it will keep going for a while. -

World Trade Center 2001
19 militants associated with the Islamic extremist group al-Qaeda hijack four airliners and carry out suicide attacks against targets in the United States. Two of the planes are flown into the towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, a third plane hits the Pentagon just outside Washington, D.C., and the fourth plane crashes into a field in Pennsylvania.
Relation to Middle East: This sets off wide spread Arab/Muslim hatred in the United States. -
Barack Obama Becomes President

Relation to The Middle East: Obama and his administration have a particular disliking toward the new Prime Minister of Israel which greatly effects the US and Isael relations. Cooperation with allies and multilateralism, his ending of the Iraq War, and the administration's attempts at destroying al-Qaeda's core leadership, particularly the killing of Osama bin Laden have been some of Obama's greatest feats and influences in The Middle East. -
ISIS
The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) has terrorized large swaths of Iraq and Syria in its drive to establish an Islamic state in the Middle East ruled by strict shariah law.
Relattion to Middle East: ISIS is the more recent developement of a terrorist group thats been around since the 90's this group is in support of the Islamic religion but is led by mostly extremeists who believe that any religion but theirs is wrong and that they deserve all rights and power over the holy land. -

Basically our relationship with Israel is slowly plummeting. This is because the Prime Minister of Israel and Obama's Administration are not seeing eye to eye. Officials in the administration find Israel's leader weak in his way of handling both Iran's Nuclear threat and Israel's Settlement Policy. (This info was last updated oct 2014.)
