Born in Langenburg, SK.
I am the youngest of 10 siblings. I grew up on a farm. My mom was a school teacher before she had kids so education was always important in our house. My dad worked in the local potash mines. -
Entered kindergarten at Hoffman Elementary School
This school contained kindergarten to grade 6. Langenburg was a town of around 1000 so we knew everyone in the school regardless of what grade they were in. -
Entered Middle School at Parkside Junior High
In grade 7 we moved to BIG school. Grades 7 through 9 were on the west side of the school and the high school was on the east. A gym separated the two schools. -
Started High School at LHS
Starting grade 10 at Langenburg High School I still was unsure of exactly what I wanted to do after high school. I was thinking I wanted an occupation where I would help people. I was pretty sure I was either going to be a nurse or a teacher. -
Graduation from LHS
I graduated on June 11th, 1995. I had decided to move to Red Deer to pursue my Education degree. There was no particular reason I chose Red Deer other than my brother lived here and I could live for free for a year. It was in this program that I met my husband so I guess it was meant to be:) -
Started at RDC in General Studies
-
Worked as Nurses Aid in Regina
I took one semester off where I lived with my sister in Regina and worked as a nurse's aide in a nursing home. -
Returned to RDC in the B.Ed Program
Have been accepted into the Middle Years program at RDC, I returned to complete my degree. I really enjoyed the hands on approach of this program. -
Graduated with my B.Ed as a Middle School Specialist
I graduated in May of 2000 and began applying for jobs in and around Red Deer. Jobs were tight in Red Deer that year so I was scared to wait it out in hopes of finding a job. Therefore when I received a job offer in Lloydminster, I jumped at it. -
Started my first teaching job in Lloydminster, SK
My first teaching job was in Lloydminster at ES Laird Junior High. It was a grade 7 to 9 school. I taught English and Social to grade 8 and 9 students. I also coached basketball. I was offered a permanent contract when I arrived, crazy I know but it was in Saskatchewan and since it was a permanent position I was offered a permanent contract. I only stayed a year, however, as my, then fiance now husband, taught in Red Deer and we felt Red Deer was were we wanted to be. -
Got a job at Hunting Hills teaching English and Social
Out of pure luck I landed a job at Hunting Hills the day before school started. I was assigned to teach grade 10 and 11 English and social part-time. By Christmas my timetable was .75 and by June I had signed a full time temporary contract. -
English Curriculum Leader
One of the biggest challenges I faced while teaching at Hunting was being the English curriculum leader. I was definitely not the most experienced person for the job but I was excited and eager to bring a new spin to this position. This position brought with it the biggest learning curve I have ever faced. -
Began teaching CTS courses in addition to English
In 2012 one of our photo teachers moved into administration opening a spot to teach photography. I jumped at the chance and have since moved into teaching graphics, video, animation, and digital arts. This is an area I am passionate about and absolutely LOVE teaching. -
Became the Educational Liaison for the Red Deer Rebels at HHHS
One of the highlights of my job is being the educational liaison with the Red Deer Rebels. I look after the boys timetables, marks, tutoring, and ensure they have all the requirements for graduation when they return to their home schools. Unfortunately, they are moving to a new school next semester so this will no longer be part of my job. -
Registered in City U Master's in Leadership Program
As I began to reflect on my teaching career and look towards the future I decided it was finally my time to further my education and hopefully pursue a job in administration. While I contemplated whether to take my masters in counselling or leadership, I finally decided on leadership with a counselling focus on mental health initatives.
