    Pearl Harbor
    The attack on Pearl Harbor was caused by the Japanese. The Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor in the early morning of December 7th. They attacked using 353 bombers, fighter planes and torpedo planes. This was an air attack and they sunk 3 U.S cruisers and 3 U.S. destroyers. The Japanese also destroyed 188 U.S. aircrafts. In this attack, 2,403 Americans were killed and 1,178 were wounded. The attack lasted apporximately 3 hours of aircrafts destroying the American base.

    The Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor to keep the U.S. Fleet from interfereing with military actions of the Empire of Japan. Japan had intended to take over certain territories such as, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and the United States. Pearl Harbor is located on the isalnd on Oahu, Hawaii. It is an United States naval base, it is also home of the United States Pacific Fleet. The attack on Pearl Harbor by the Imperial Japanese was the cause of the United States entering World War Two.

    This battle was an attack on American-British-Dutch-Australian Command (ABDAC) by the Imperial Japanese Navy. This was a terrible defeat of the ABDAC. The ABDAC navy was split between Tandjong Priok and Surabaya at the time when an ABDAC aircraft spotted the Japanese Eastern Invasion Fleet. Helfrich sent reinforcement to Surabaya for Rear Admiral Karl Doorman. Doorman's force consisted of two heavy cruisers (USS Houston & HMS Exeter), three light cruisers.

    (HNLMS De Ruyter, HNLMS Java, & HMAS Perth), as well as three British, two Dutch, and four American (Destroyer Division 58) destroyers. Doorman couldnt locate the Japanese Fleet, so they turned for Surabaya. To the North, Japan also moved towards Surabaya. A Japanese airforce forced the ABDAC to disperse. The Battle of Java Sea was a victory for Japan.

    The Japaanese conducted an air raid on the Phillipines and a full invasion on the island, Luzon. The U.S. did not have astrong enough defense system and shortly surrendered to the Japanese. 75,000 Filipinos and American troops were forced to ,arch 65 miles to prison camps. The marchers faced harsh treatmeant by the Japanese guards. 5,200 people perished, the marched lasted 5-12 days. Afterwards, General Masaharu Homma was tries for war crimes.

    Also known as the Tokyo Raid. The Doolittle Raid was an air raid on Japan conducted by the Untied States. The U.S was targeting the Japanese capitol, Tokyo. 16 U.S B-25B bombers were launched from the Western Pacific Ocean, each bomber had a crew of 5 men. In total their were 71 officers and 130 men involved, After the bombers landed, Japan conducted a sweep for any American airmen. The Japanese also punished any Chinese who aided the Americans. This raid boosted American morale.

    The Battle of Coral Sea was the first air-sea battle in history. Japan landed in Port Moseby of southeastern New Guinea. Allied forces than attacked. The Japanese was attacked by aircraft carrier planes led by Rear Admiral Frank J. Fletcher. Allied codebreakers learned about enemy communications, which was an advantage for the U.S. Another advantage for the U.S was that the Japanese had a lack of air coverage whihc led to their defeat. The Japanese was attacked because they wanted to control..

    The Japanese wante to eliminate the U.S. as a strategic power in the Pacific Ocean. The Japanese planned on luring the U.S. into a trap, this would give them control of the Midway Islands. American code breakers were able to determine the date and location of the ambushes. The U.S. then planned to surprise Japan. After this knowledge was realesed, Admiral Fletcher ordered Spruance to attack the Japanese Navy when ever practical. The U.S. bombed the Japanese oil tanker an the war continued.

    By the end of the battle, 3.057 Japanese had died. This was a tremendous victory for the Allied forces, This battle also left permenant damage on the Japanese Naval Fleet. It took place in north central Pacific Ocean near the Midway Islands.

    Guadalcanal is an island located in the south western Pacific of the Solomon Islands. American forces spotted a Japanese airfield being built on the borth coast at Lunga Point. The airfield was a large threat to Austrailia directly. The U.S. landed U.S. Marines and secured the airfield. the Guadalcanal stopped Japanese Expansion which made it a turning point in the war. The Japanese surrendered the island and evacuated in Feb. of 1943. The U.S. then finished building and named it Henderson Fiel

    Islang Hopping is the crossing of an ocean by traveling short distances between islands.In military it means conquering an area island by island.The strategy was employed by the United States in the Pacific War against the Empire of Japan.

    Battle of Leyte Gulf
    This battle was the worlds largest naval battle of World War Two. It was fought in the Leyte Gulf. The U.S. invaded the island of Leyte as a plan to isolate Japan. This would also depreive its forces and industries from its oil supply. Japan sent its forces to sea at the frst sight of Allied landings. Admiral Kurita Takeo was to detach an element of his fleet to go through the Surigo Strait, the element was destroyed.

    Japan's aircraft carriers did managae to decoy the U.S. Third Fleet of Admiral William F. Halsey. Kurita came closest to the Leyte Gulf. The battle destroyed much of Japan's remaining surface fleet, it also ended Japan's ability to move resources. Japan loss 3 battleships, 4 aircraft carriers, 10 cruisers, 11 destroyers and over 10,500 sailors.

    The U.S. Armed Forces landed and captured the island of Iwo Jima (Operation Detachment). The battle was on of the bloodiest battles of World War Two. 3 U.S. Marine Divisions landed on Iwo Jima. The battle was fougth by the Japanese by a network of caves, dugouts adn tunnels. Iwo Jima was roughly 575 miles from Japan. Iwo Jima was defended by 23,000 Japanese, 22,00 of which died.

    This battke was 287,000 American soldiers against 130,000 Japanese soldiers. They were fighting for air bases vital to the invasion of Japan. The Japanese navy conducted mass air attacks by "suicide" missions. Japanese soldieres found defense positions in caves and even anciet castles. Casualties lost was 10,000. Both commanding officers died during battle. The Japanese lost 2,800 aircrafts, 1 battleship, a cruiser and 4 destroyers. Along with 110,071 people.

    This was the first nuclear weapon used in warfare history. President Harry S Truman said that an invasion on Japan would result in horrific losses of American life. American bomber Enola Gay dropped a 5-ton bomb over Hiroshima. The bomb killed 80,000 people.

    3 days after Hiroshima, the U.S. dropped Nagaski, killinng nearly 40,000 people. Afterwards Japan announced surrender.
