The Japanese empire conducted a surprise bombing on the American naval and airforce bases located in Pear Harbor, Hawaii. The attack led to U.S. involvement in the war and sparked national mobilization for war. -

The Battle of Okinawa was one of the last major battles of WWII. The U.S. suffered heavy casualties to obtain the island, but it was strategically important as it allowed the U.S. to be within bombing range of mainland Japan. It was one of the last islands Japan retained territorial control of during the war. -
