In 1885 J. K. Piggott married Mary A. Keenan (1868-1960) in Santa Rosa, California. Mary's family came from Canada and settled in Ukiah in 1880 when she was 12 years old. Piggott Out of State per Father's Obit -
J. K. Piggott, who conducted a photographic studio in this city for a number of years, is in town, accompanied by Mrs. Piggott. They are visiting Mrs. Piggott’s father. Since leaving Santa Rosa several years ago, Mr. and Mrs. Piggott have been located in Guatemala. Not long since Mr. Piggott sold out his business there.

Piggott is living in Santa Rosa when the 1906 earthquake hits and takes several photos of the destruction.

By 1906, J.K. and Mary Piggott are living in Mexico where they survive being shot at by Mexican bandits during an evening out in their horse-drawn coach and five revolutions. While in Mexico he became an authority on western scenery. His wife Mary Keenan was his partner in the business helping him by adding oil paint to millions of photos of scenery from throughout the nation.

In 1914, J.K. Piggott is listed in the San Francisco Directory as a photographer. He spent the remainder of his life as a photographer and printer at his studio at 86 Third Street, San Francisco.
