Faraday's Law is discovered and the first DC generator is built.
Michal Faraday discovers a principle involving magnetic generators. "An electromagnetic force is generated in an electrical conductor which circles a magnetic flux." He also invented the Faraday Disk, the very first electric generator. -
Compromize of 1850
After the Mexican-American war there was debate as to wether or not the states would be admitted as slave states. In this compromise, a line was drawn depicting the sides where slavery was legal and illegal. -

Election of Honest Abe
Abe Lincoln was elected the first Republican president, and his known anti-slavery views were known throughout the South. This Election is one of the last events before the Attack on Ft. Sumter a month later. -

National Labor Union is formed
The National Labor Union, led by William H. Sylvis, is formed in 1866. It paved the way for future organizations. Disolved in 1873. They made changes through Legislative reform rather than Collective Bargaining. This means they pressured Congress to make changes. Unfortunatly the group was unsuccessful in many of it's pressuring points, and didn't last long. However, the group did highten awareness of problems with Labor and perhaps inspired people to join future unions. -
Announcement for the discovery of the Modern Dynamo
Sir Charles Wheatstone, Werner Von Siemens, and Samuel Alfred Varley announce their discovery of a more efficient Dynamo. The Modern Dynamo preceeded the Alternating current Dynamo. -
Alaska Bought
Alaska is bought from Russia for $7.2 Million, pushed by William H. Seward. Mixed feelings about the purchase led to the purchase being called "Seward's Folly" -
14th Ammendment made to the Constitution
the 14th Ammendment is made to the US Constitution, defining citizenship, deciding appointment of Representitives, noting disqualifications of Office and Public Debt. -
Knights of Labor is formed
Knights of Labor is formed and picks up speed after the fall of the National Labor Union. One of the largest Unions with Membership over 700,000, the Knights had many other clandestine Unions merge with them. With the spread across multiple states and across many trades, organization became a problem which never went away and contributed to their downfall. The Union did include both sexes and even blacks, stating that Union was their goal for all who Labor, brain and brawn. -
15th Ammendment Ratified: Blacks given Right to Vote!
The 15th Ammendment is ratified giving the right to vote to any man no matter of race or previous condition of servitude. -

Steel begins to replace Iron, making rails easier to be produced and stronger, and provides a better Oppertunity for technological Advancement. -

The American Federation of Labor is founded.
The American Federation of Labor is founded in 1886 and led by Samuel Gompers. Many members who joined and aided in the creation of the AFL were members of the broken Knights of Labor. Only Skilled workers were allowed into the Union, and Racial minorities and women were denied initially. Unlike the Knights of Labor, which shared Samuel Gomper's view in peaceful negotiations and Legislative Reform to further the cause of Workers Rights, the Union itself preferred Strikes. -
Statue of Liberty Dedicated
Statue of Liberty, designed by Frederic Auguste Bartholdi, was given to America from France as a gift signifying their alliance in the American Revolution, and their lasting Friendship. The statue costed $250,000 -
First Steam powered model Airplane
Samuel Pierpoint Langly invents a model airplane that can fly for half a mile on its own and is more than 15 ft. long. -
First Gasoline powered Model Airplane
Samuel Pierpoint Langley builds the first model airplane powered by gasoline. It was designed off of one of his own Areodomes, and powered by an internal combustion engine. -
First controlled self powered flight of an airplane
Wilbur and Orville Wright design, build, and test the first successfull and practical airplane, flying 852 Ft. for 52 seconds. -

Henry Ford makes the Model T available for everyone
"I will make a car for the great multitude" -Henry Ford Voted most influential car of the century in 1999, Henry Ford did not make the first Automobile. Instead, he made the automobile something anyone could buy. The first cars were often expensive and an extreme luxury the rich could only have. Henry Ford made the Model T to be affordible to anyone in the middle class, and opened up the gateway for America to have cars. -

Eugene Ely takes off from a ship in november of 1910, and in January of 1911, lands his curtis Biplane on a ship using a primitive version of the arresting landing mechinism used to land planes today. -

Lawrence Sperry demonstrates his autopilot by flying in a straight line at the same speed. THe Autopilot works with a sensor linked gyroscope. -
Renault makes several Advances for the French
The company Renault , which manufactured many cars and trucks before the war, designed many military vehicles, including this T-17 tank, and was so successful with their designs for the war the company was given a medal for it. -

WWI and Rapid Advancements in
WWI started on January 28 with the assassination of Franz Ferdinand, and ended with the formation of the UN and their first meeting on the 10th of January in 1920. During this time, Rapid advancements were made in flight due to a higher demand for more speed, manuverability, and higher altitudes. This led to many improvements in shape, engine design, control, and areodynamics. This also impacted cars, which were used during WWI as troop transports and armored vehicles. Tanks also played a part. -
Taxis Of Marne
When the 6th Army defending Paris was short on soldiers, and a German attack was iminent, General Joseph-Simon Gallieni awaited reinfocements. However, with a shortage of vehicles, the General suggested the use of Taxis. These taxis, driven by Cab drivers, were sent back and forth to pick up soldiers and transport them to the front, without headlights. -

The Junkers J4 is introduced by Hugo Junkers, a german Scientist. It is an airplane made entirely out of a metal alluminum alloy called "Duralinnium" -
18th Ammendment Ratified by 3/4 vote, becomes effective.
The 18th Ammendment prohibits the sale, manufacturing, or drinking of any intoxicating beverages. This starts prohibition, which contributed to a higher crime rate. -

The banning of Intoxicating beverages from being bought, sold, manufactured and drank causes much uproar and contributed to a higher crime rate and more opposition to the government. Prohibition ended with the 21st Ammendment which counteracted the 18th ammendment. -
19th Ammendment Ratified, Women can vote!
The 19th Ammendment prevents votes from being denied because of sex. Women can now register and vote. -
