US troops who Jefferson were in charge of and and Spain troops who Governor Coredo who was in charge of the had sort of a "no mans land" along the Sabine River of neurtal ground where the US nor Spain had control of it. This neutral ground lasted for about 15 years.
This affected the Mexican independence because it really gave them a sense of identity while holding their ground which later led to their independence.
