The Fifth Era announced
The Dwemeri Miracle and its potential consequences prompted Emperor Titus Mede IV and Guardian of the Dominion Caldindil to come together and announce the end of the Fourth Era and the beginning of the Fifth Era. Calendars were officially restarted and the Moth Priests re-categorized their whole library. The Union of Morrowind disagreed with the decision and kept living in the Fourth Era, as the Redoran had no plans to take part in researching "evil" Dwemeri technology. -
The Age of Discoveries starts
Starting from the beginning of the Fifth Era, countless scientific, philosophical and political breakthroughs were made. This unprecedented revolution was made possible due to the unlocking of Dwemeri engineering principles at Mildorth. Tamrielic societies changed in unforeseen ways and their leaders had to deal with the growing self-consciousness of their subjects. Science and technology began to overtake magic as the most powerful creative force in Tamriel. -
Imperial Engineers created
The Empire had decided to co-opt the Dwemeri Miracle by putting together a group of architects, engineers and scientists. Under Titus Mede IV's orders, the Imperial Engineers were established. They were given resources to decipher the blueprints of Mildorth and adapt them to work for the Empire and its people. Headquartered in Bruma, the Imperial Engineers chartered the creation of hundreds of new institutions of higher education around the Empire. -
Titus Mede IV passes away, Solrolf Mede takes over
Titus Mede IV, the Sexually Transmitted Emperor, died of old age. His son, Solrolf Mede, took over as the new leader of the Empire. He was an ethnic Nord, due to Titus Mede IV's marriage to a Nordic noblewoman. Solrolf took a keen interest in the Dwemeri Miracle and the possibilities it afforded to the world, so much so that his nickname among the Imperial public became the "Clockwork Emperor". -
Forsworn return to the Reach
The Reachmen were driven from Markarth by Ulfric Stormcloak. They escaped into the wilderness surrounding the city of Markarth, where they underwent a metamorphosis. 400 years later, the Reachmen returned under the banner of the Forsworn. Time spent on the run had changed them. Cannibalism, murder and sexual violence were now officially enshrined in their perverted Hagraven-led religion. The Forsworn launched a campaign of terror against the Nords of the Reach. -
Breakthrough in steam power
Before their dissolving, the Thalmor-Synod workgroup of Mildorth made one last discovery. They managed to successfully construct a vastly smaller steam machine, through the use of newly-discovered Dwemeri blueprints. Now, steam engines could be fit into most large buildings. This discovery proved that steam technology was adaptable. It also proved that the Dwemer did have problems with perceiving their size as inadequate. -
Order of Diagna established
In the First Era and Second Era, Hammerfell had an elite group of knights called the Order of Diagna. Their leader was Gaiden Shinji, a famed warrior and anti-Orcish crusader. In 5E 2, the Republic of Hammerfell resurrected the Order as an exclusive club of warriors, armed with the best weapons available and trained to excellence. The purpose of the Order of Diagna was to suppress rebellions in Hammerfell and punish enemies of the state abroad. -
Royal Wayfarers created
The Aldmeri Dominion pulled back its workforce from Solstheim and established a new organization, the Royal Wayfarers. They were well-funded and composed of the best architects, engineers and researchers the Dominion could find. Their mission was to research, develop and implement Dwemeri technology. Royal Wayfarers were headquartered in the city of Firsthold. -
Alessian Order declared a threat to the Empire
Although they were outlawed by the Empire, the Order reappeared in Leyawiin. They had infiltrated the city as commoners, only to dress in their iconic blue robes once inside. They drew their swords and attacked a local kindergarten, kidnapping over 200 children. The Order took the children into the woods and disappeared. After the attack, the Empire declared the Alessian Order to be a national threat and Penitus Oculatus were dispatched to investigate. -
Stormcloaks build a crime empire
The leader of the Stormcloaks, Angvaar Hand-Veins, was a practical man. He decided that the Stormcloaks must swallow their pride if they are ever to have enough septims to fund a guerrilla war. As such, the Stormcloaks began co-opting into the drug market of Skyrim. After a few short years, the Stormcloaks perfected the production of high-quality skooma and sold it in Rift and Eastmarch, beating out the local Khajiit-led crime syndicates. -
First dictionary published in High Rock
A Breton clergyman named Edwnold Enclard wrote the first dictionary in Tamrielic history. It was his goal to keep the near-extinct Old Bretic language alive, by writing a glossary of all known Bretic words. At first keeping knowledge of the book to himself, Enclard published his writings after public interest in ancient languages grew. After its publishing in Cyrodiil, Enclard's "Girclóire o Ancafol Breatainnach" dictionary inspired the writing of a glossary of Modern Tamrielic. -
First steam-powered building built
The Royal Wayfarers adapted blueprints gathered from Solstheim to work in smaller circumstances. As a result of their work, room-sized objects could now be steam-powered. The Royal Museum in Alinor became the first building to be powered by steam, with its doors and windows opening with a simple touch of a button. More of a curiosity, this building served to prove to the wider public that Dwemeri technology has practical purposes for Tamriel. -
Empiricist thinker Faluara executed
Among the wizards of the House of Telvanni, the perception of being above gods was common. Faluara, a Telvanni philosopher, wrote a book called "Grey Within", which became popular in the intellectual circles of Morrowind. She argued that true knowledge could only be gathered through senses and rational thought, not from divine enlightenment. As the Redoran government believed secularism to be a heresy, she was arrested by the government and executed. -
Production of steel starts in the Pale
The Imperial Engineers, who had made considerable progress with steam technology, adapted steam engines to power larger processes. Steam engines could be used in the mines to power carts, blast rocks and process raw iron into steel. As a result, industrial production of steel began in Northern Skyrim. The process was slow and prone to spontaneous steam explosions, but it proved its worth in tons of high-quality steel. -
Anti-clerical riots in Camlorn
The Kingdom of Camlorn in High Rock was dominated by an upper class of priests, who exerted considerable influence over the King of Camlorn. These clergymen were allowed to own serfs and claim feudal duties from almost every peasant under their jurisdiction. After a nasty bout of mass starvation, the people of Camlorn demanded to be freed from taxation. After receiving a negative response from the King, the peasants of Camlorn burned down hundreds of churches and lynched priests. -
Orcs driven from Hammerfell
In 4E 422, Lord Thulgeg led Orcs from the Dragontail Mountains to rebuilt the city of Orsinium in the Wrothgarian Mountains. Some Orcs remained in Hammerfell and continued to live in isolated strongholds. Their communities were poor and their inhabitants were forced to resort to banditry. In order to end the Orcish threat, the Republic of Hammerfell ordered the Order of Diagna to drive the Orcs away. After a successful campaign, all Orcish strongholds in the Dragontail Mountains were demolished. -
Cement discovered
The Royal Wayfarers experimented with popular alchemical processes. After they mixed bonemeal with other magical plants and heated the mixture to hellish temperatures, they managed to turn the mixture into Firsthold Cement, a new variety of cement. Finding the material to be tough, cheap and useful in construction, the first cement houses were built in a working-class suburb of Firsthold. -
Jehanna Druid Trials
The majority religion in High Rock was the worship of the Eight Divines. This caused friction in Western Reach, where the locals venerated heathen spirits. Reachmen religious rituals were especially sadistic, as they practiced self-mutilation, cannibalism and the sacrifice of children. Bretonic authorities in Western Reach captured a circle of Reachmen druids and put them on trial for "witchcraft and debauchery". In the city of Jehanna, the druids were sentenced to death by hanging. -
Natural gas harnessed in Argonia
The swamps of Argonia, filled with all sorts of noxious airborne gases, contained vast natural resources. Argonian researchers began to experiment on the gases present in the swamps. After discovering that a pink-tinted gas they collected burned with a bright flame and produced light, Argonia started to hoard the gas and used it for torches and heating. The discovery of natural gas made other nations keen to appropriate the finding. -
Sheet glass perfected in Hammerfell
The dunes of Alik'r Desert provided some of the best sand in all of Tamriel. Redguard researchers were interested in finding ways to make stronger and more resilient glass. Through years of research, the cylinder process was invented to make large sheets and panes of durable glass. Called Alik'r glass, the nascent Republic ramped up its production and began selling glass to the other nations. Provinces without deserts, like Skyrim and High Rock, grew dependent on Alik'r glass. -
Colonization Society founded
Emperor Solrolf Mede harbored a wish to expand the borders of the Empire into the other continents of Nirn. This led to the founding of the Colonization Society, chartered to explore and claim territory in Akavir, Atmora, Pyandonea and beyond. Led by Lord Zenerius, the Colonization Society acquired an exploratory fleet of twenty merchant ships, three frigates and a flagship called the IMS Verta. Plans were drawn to colonize and settle parts of Akavir with Imperial and Nordic settlers. -
Surnames enforced by the Dominion
In an effort to better facilitate census-taking, the Aldmeri Dominion forced all Altmer and Bosmer to adopt surnames. While the Altmer and the Khajiiti adopted their surnames from their clans or from their occupations, the Bosmer were allowed to come up with their own surnames. As a result, the Bosmer began using poetic nature-inspired surnames to mark their identities. Some Bosmer decided to be amusing and named themselves after rude words, which later led to a second round of surname adoption. -
Penitus Oculatus infiltrated by the Dragon League
The Dragon League's human supremacist ideology struggled to survive as old wounds between the Elves and humans began to heal. After the incident with the Eye of Magnus, Penitus Oculatus started to investigate their activities. Instead of fighting, the League offered Oculatus agents their knowledge and resources. Some agents decided to involve the League in their operations and allowed the League to gain political influence. -
Daughters of Elsweyr established
The kingdoms of Anequina and Pelletine, powerless to help their merchants fight against racism and prejudice in the Empire, initiated the creation of an all-female secret service group called the Daughters of Elsweyr, whose job was to defend Khajiiti merchants and moon sugar growers from attacks outside the borders of Elsweyr. Their secondary purpose was to further the goals of the Dominion and attack its enemies. The Daughters of Elsweyr were professional, ruthless and well-funded. -
Expedition to Atmora
The Colonization Society led an expedition to Atmora, a large island to the north of Skyrim and the birthplace of the Nordic race. Lord Zenerius took 60 Nordic farmers aboard the IMS Verta, intending to use them as first settlers. Upon reaching Atmora, Zenerius realized that the island was unsuitable for colonization, as it lacked arable land and harbored a polar climate. Although the trip was a failure, the Society mapped Atmoran coastline to produce the first modern map of the distant island. -
Industrial coal mining begins in Northern Skyrim and Jerall Mountains
Imperial prospectors found large lodes of coal in the Jerall Mountains and in the Nordic hold of the Reach. Employing steam engines for mining, natural gas lamps for illumination and Firsthold cement for supporting structures, the mines become profitable, supplying the Empire with large volumes of coal. The mines were staffed by a vibrant mix of Nords, Imperials, Argonians and Dunmer. This created an energy surplus for the Empire and they began exporting coal to other nations. -
Construction of a horse railway begins in Skyrim
Horse railway, the idea to use steel rail tracks for transporting heavy loads through the use of twenty-horse harnesses, was developed and experimented upon in Skyrim. Emperor Solrolf Mede commissioned a prototype horse railway to be built between Solitude and Whiterun. After it turned out to be a successful prototype, other cities in Skyrim were connected by horse railways, easing the transportation of heavy equipment and simplifying trade. -
The Imperial City grows substantially
The Imperial City, founded by the Ayleids in the First Era, grew steadily after it became the capital of the Empire. In the year of 5E 26, celebrations were held after the Imperial Census confirmed that the 1 millionth inhabitant had arrived in the City. The largest city in Tamriel, the Imperial City had long grown past its original city walls and now encompassed the whole City Isle, in addition to having three populous satellite towns: Weye, Wellspring and Aleswell. -
Dominion Transport Authority formed
For the longest time, maintenance of the roads in Alinor and Valenwood was left to the local counties and kingdoms. As a result, some roads in the countries were top-notch, while others were nothing more than gravels beds. Hearing of the complaints, the government created the Dominion Transport Authority, to oversee the maintenance and building of public roads. As a result, newly paved roads were built in all provinces of the Dominion. -
Eastern Lands Company created
Morrowind had traditionally supplied luxury goods to Skyrim, but starting from 5E 20, the Redoran had raised tolls for individual buyers. In Solitude, a group of businessmen gathered together and formed the Eastern Lands Company, to import fine luxury goods from Morrowind. The great success of the Eastern Lands Company led other Tamrielic nations to launch their own syndicates for the importation of foreign goods. -
Expedition to Pyandonea
After their trip to Atmora, the Colonization Society received funding from an unlikely source: the Aldmeri Dominion. Queen Sontanya of Sunhold desired to establish trade with Pyandonea, an equatorial archipelago to the south of Tamriel. Twenty ships set off from the port of Sunhold, commanded by Lord Zenerius and Liliwen Anaeth. The fleet reached Pyandonea and met with representatives of the Maormer. Although no colonization took place, goods were exchanged and the islands were mapped. -
House Redoran closes all independent facilities
The House Redoran, concerned about various liberal elements swaying the public opinion towards a path of pro-Imperialism, closed all non-Redoran schools due to their "lack of morals and the Dunmeri spirit". Citizen councils decried the loss of independent education as the state propaganda promulgated by the Redoran government became ubiquitous and more prominent. Morrowind under Redoran remained a backwards authoritarian state, paranoid of outsiders and internal dissent. -
Streetlights installed in Alinor
Wishing to show Alinori citizens the full extend of the Royal Wayfarer's successes, the Dominion tasked them to use Argonian natural gas to illuminate the streets of Alinor, to make them usable during the night. This expensive endeavor was welcomed with open arms and the streets of Alinor became far more safer and welcoming at night-time, allowing businesses to keep their stores open 24/7. -
Expedition to Yokuda
Emperor Solrolf Mede tasked the Colonization Society to explore Yokuda, a massive sunken continent to the west of Tamriel. Thirty ships set off from Anvil, led by Lord Zenerius and the IMS Verta. Upon reaching Yokuda, it was discovered that 95% of the continent was indeed under water. Only barren mountaintops and sunken ruins remained of the vibrant homeland of the Redguards. 450 Imperial farmers were dropped off at Yokuda and founded the colony of West Kvatch. -
Forsworn occupy the Swirlten Mine
Swirlten Mine, the first iron mine in the Reach to employ steam power, was invaded by Forsworn rebels. Its miners were taken hostage. The Forsworn stole copious amounts of valuable ore and flooded the mine. They also committed heinous crimes with the hostages, including ritualized sodomy and forced cannibalism. A month later, the Jarl sent an army to clear out the Forsworn. The miners, many of whom were mentally traumatized, were quietly retired to mental asylums. -
Dangerous bomb seized by Penitus Oculatus agents
After rumors spread among the workers of the Imperial Waterfront of a terrible calamity happening in the Imperial City, Penitus Oculatus agents were tasked to investigate. They searched various warehouses and found a bomb in one of them, guarded by the Daughters of Elsweyr. After questioning, they confessed that the Thalmor wanted them to detonate the bomb in the middle of the Lower Market District. This information was kept a secret and envoys were dispatched to meet the Thalmor. -
Akavirian colonization authorized
Emperor Solrolf Mede gave the Colonization Society 5 million septims to assemble an exploratory fleet and sail to Akavir. The continent of Akavir was believed to be larger than Tamriel and its colonization would bring huge benefits to the Empire. A weaponized fleet was assembled, again led by Lord Zenerius and the IMS Verta. 1200 armed colonists of Imperial and Nordic origin were taken aboard the fleet, as were dozens of scientists from the College of Whispers. -
Expedition to Akavir begins
On 27th Morning Star, the fleet took off from the port of Solitude. The distance between Tamriel and Akavir was approximately 3,846 miles, a truly vast distance. Course was taken towards Esroniet, a large island in Western Akavir and an old Third Era colony of the Empire. On 5th Sun's Dawn, the Imperial sailors witnessed an anomaly: their compasses had started to deviate from the magnetic north. The marine life of Padomaic Ocean was dangerous and several monstrous beings were spotted. -
The discovery of the Padomaic Wall
On 10th Sun's Dawn, the sailors of the fleet spotted a massive wall of waterspouts and dangerously large waves. This strange phenomena, named the Padomaic Wall, was investigated by the fleet's scientists. It was discovered that the chain of waterspouts was not a natural occurrence, suggesting arcane origin. The fleet spent two days sailing parallel to the Padomaic Wall, observing that it seemed to be uninterrupted, circled the entirety of Akavir and was thousands of miles long. -
Sailing through the Padomaic Wall
Lord Zenerius was faced with two decisions: sailing back to Tamriel or attempting to cross the Padomaic Wall. Afraid of losing his reputation and funding, Zenerius ordered the IMS Verta and three frigates to cross the Wall. The rest of the fleet was to wait for Zenerius to return alive. Mere minutes after entering the Padomaic Wall, the four ships were torn apart by vicious waterspouts. The colonization fleet returned to Tamriel after no sailors were observed to survive Zenerius's final voyage. -
Aftermath of the expedition
After returning to Solitude, the fleet reported the discovery of the Padomaic Wall. All around Tamriel, academics took notice of the strange phenomena and tried to explain the existence of the Wall with scientific and arcane methods. The Colonization Society was defunded and dispersed, ending Imperial attempts to colonize other continents of Nirn. The colony of West Kvatch, founded by the Society on Yokuda, lasted for two more years until its residents ran out of food and returned to Tamriel. -
Homosexuality outlawed in Morrowind
Although homosexuality was usually accepted in Tamrielic nations, the Union of Morrowind criminalized same-sex relationships between adults and punished caught homosexuals with jail time. This ban was a part of a larger agenda of the Redoran to "Dunmerize morality". In the following years, women were outlawed from attending institutions of higher education, gambling was banned and all interracial marriages were annulled. Slavery was kept legal, as it was hugely profitable for the Redoran. -
Dragon League takes over Kvatch
After bribing, patronizing and intimidating key Elder Council members, the Dragon League managed to gain leadership over Kvatch, a city in the Colovian Highlands. New laws were established: Elves were unwelcome within city limits, while Beastfolk were to be imprisoned on sight. Furthermore, all trade contacts with the Dominion were forbidden and interracial relationships carried hefty fines. -
Nirnquake in the Rift
A major nirnquake struck the seismically active Rift Hold in Skyrim, causing widespread destruction and loss of life. With upwards to 25,000 people dying, volunteers were drafted to save people trapped under rubble. Even the Stormcloaks appeared to help the injured. While Riften escaped relatively unharmed, its surrounding towns suffered vast structural damages, giving the Imperial Engineers a chance to build new, nirnquake-resistant houses. -
Steam-powered water pumps installed around the Empire
A member of the Imperial Engineers, Lorentus Clanasus, figured out a way to harness the power of medium-sized steam engines to pump water from rivers and into man-made basins and mines. These pumps, known as Lorento pumps, allowed miners to work more efficiently and allowed sanitation systems to be built in major cities. Although prone to occasional violent explosions, the Lorento pumps nevertheless demonstrated the usefulness of steam technology. -
Piston steam machine formulated by Wayfarers
The Royal Wayfarers built the first piston-based steam machine, which theoretically made deep-shaft mining profitable. The piston machines were used to launch large-scale mining operations in Southern Alinor and Northern Elsweyr, where deep deposits of coal were found by Wayfarer prospectors. Previously, Altmeri miners had used magic to break apart rocks, but the arrival of the efficient piston steam machine made the use of magic for mining obsolete. -
First spectacles made in Hammerfell
A Redguard doctor called Riensha Shrardima invented the first eyeglasses in Tamriel after she discovered that concave and convex pieces of glass cured poor eyesight caused by old age and other factors. After their invention, first vision-correcting spectacles in history were sold in Hammerfell. Although ornate and expensive, spectacles nevertheless spread across all of Tamriel. -
A gold rush begins in the Wrothgarian Mountains
An Orcish miner, Brous gro-Urggog, was prospecting a dry riverbed he bought for himself when his first strike of the pickaxe produced lumps of gold. As the news spread, an army of amateur miners from all around Tamriel booked carriages to the Wrothgarian Mountains. Many of these would-be prospectors were poor and saw gold mining as a way out of poverty. -

Large-scale paper making begins in Valenwood
Although the principles behind the creation of paper were already known in the Third Era, paper was never seen as a viable rival to parchment due to parchment's ubiquity. Workers in Valenwood discovered a way to use magical roots to bleach wood pulp snow-white. This new discovery gave rise to a large-scale paper production operation in Valenwood. Paper was officially adopted by the Dominion as their documentation material. The Empire continued with parchment for a few more decades. -
Wrothgarian Gold Rush turns violent
Rumors of a gold rush spread as many prospectors made the dangerous trip to the Wrothgarian Mountains. However, most of the gold had already been mined by the Orcs and the Bretons, leaving would-be miners with empty hands. They descended upon nearby Orc villages and exacted revenge. Orcish warriors from Orsinium had to forcefully remove foreigners from Wrothgaria, killing those who attempted to resist. Unlucky prospectors fled, spreading tales of Orcish brutality. -
Thalmor questioned over the Waterfront bomb
After the Thalmor finally met with the Penitus Oculatus, they promptly denied all connections with the bomb and found their interrogation to be insulting. Even direct evidence proving the involvement of the Thalmor in the Lower Market District bomb did not change the Thalmor position. Angered, Penitus Oculatus agents decided to start a campaign to harass and investigate all Thalmori agents active in Cyrodiil. -
Mechanical clocks built in Elsweyr
First developed by Khajiiti merchants to organize their trade and synchronize their travels, primitive mechanical clocks were crude and prone to failure due to the usage of sensitive springs. After soul gem fragments were added to the design for added arcane sensitivity, the clocks became precise enough to be usable by everyone. Factories were set up in Pelletine to produce mechanical clocks for the Dominion. Mechanical pocket watches became fashionable among the Altmeri upper class. -
Steam hammers turn Alinor mines profitable
Although large-scale coal mining operations in Elsweyr and Alinor were started, Dominion struggled to gather enough coal to power its needs. The coal veins in Alinor were deeper and more clustered than the open mines in Skyrim. Royal Wayfarers were tasked to make the process more efficient, and they crafted the first steam hammers, which used piston machines to break rocks apart at high power. -
Rolling mill metal factories revolutionize metal production in Cyrodiil
The invention of rolling mills allowed hot iron and steel to be rolled into sheets of identical thickness, revolutionizing construction work. Now, buildings could have floors and ceilings made of pure metal. Emperor Solrolf Mede ordered an array of rolling mill factories to be built in Bravil, which helped to turn the city into an industrial hub for the production of high-quality metal sheets. -
High Councillor Rarini Norrilo assassinated
Rarini Norrilo, the Redoran High Councillor of Morrowind, was murdered while visiting army garrisons in the Valus Mountains. At first suspecting the Empire, the hypothesis changed after investigators found the camping site the assassin had been living in. A note was recovered, promising Norrilo's soul to Sithis. This confirmed the assassin's association with the Dark Brotherhood. The perpetrator was never captured and the Brotherhood escaped with impunity. -
Alessian Order's hostages found
In the year 5E 3, the Alessian Order kidnapped 200 children from a kindergarten in Leyawiin. In the year of 52, a mass grave was discovered in the Imperial Reserve, containing the bodies of 200 murdered children. Quickly connected with the kidnappings, Penitus Oculatus was given the priority assignment to find and destroy the Order. The sinister Alessian Order continued to fuel paranoia among citizens of the Empire. -
Divine mechanics questioned in Alinor
A famed astronomer and a member of the Thalmor called Meanon collected his body of work into a treatise called "Ehlnofey Reflections". He argued that Nirn and its two moons weren't moving because of magic or divine intervention, but that their movement suggested some sort of a force driving the astral bodies to interact with each other. Censured for his rejection of divine physics, he was nonetheless proven right a few years later. -
Empiricism adopted by the Synod
Telvanni thinker Faluara was executed for heretical secular beliefs, but her concept of basing all research purely on facts spread among the educated crowds. Eventually, the Synod became convinced of Empiricism and it was adopted as an official philosophy. The belief of facts, sensory data and tangible evidence overruled the exclusive belief in religious revelations, traditions and customs that had plagued the Synod in its earliest years of existence. -
Daughters of Elsweyr destroy the Jonna Bridge
The Jonna Bridge was an important part of Imperial City's infrastructure, connecting the Upper Alessian District of the Imperial City with the satellite city of Aleswell. Used by Khajiiti merchants for panhandling and direct sales, the Elder Council banned Khajiiti from using the Jonna Bridge for transportation and habitation. Local Khajiiti protested and the Daughters of Elsweyr were dispatched to make things right. They sure did, by blowing up the bridge with a bomb. -
Empire and Dominion start to use firearms
Advances in smithing, brought on by the coal industry, allowed blast furnaces to be used to smith stronger, more durable steel. Employing full-time smiths paid by the government, the Dominion and the Empire armed their archers with firearms. The Dominion used ornate and lightweight muskets, while the Empire used the powerful and robust arquebuses. Some bowmen voiced their opposition to this change, but they found themselves a distinct minority. -
Solrolf Mede dies, triggers a succession crisis
Emperor Solrolf Mede died without a natural-born heir, as he had been a lifelong bachelor. He nonetheless had an adopted daughter, an orphan from Hammerfell called Quadirah Mede. Although she was the first in line to succeed as the Empress of Tamriel, her young age, coupled with her being a non-Imperial and an adoptee, split the Elder Council in disagreement. Councilor Fainio Catius became the acting regent of the Empire. -
Alveoder Ginden begins to experiment
After reading a smuggled copy of "Ehlnofey Reflections", a Dunmeri physics professor from the College of Blacklight called Alveoder Ginden grew interested in figuring out the truth behind the anomalous force driving celestial bodies. Ginden used Mysticism magic to simulate the orbits of Nirn, Masser and Secunda. By using telekinesis, Ginden generated a good enough model of orbital physics. He called his model of orbital physics the Kinetic Theory. -
Arieanne Manrien discovers magnucentricity
A College of Whispers astronomer called Arieanne Manrien observed the planet Kynareth, a blue-colored planet far away from Nirn. While surveying the planet at the Imperial Observatory, Arieanne detected Kynareth to have phases, similar to the moons of Nirn. Under the accepted nirncentric model, this shouldn't be possible. Perturbed, she wrote about her discovery, but was silenced by the College of Whispers and forced to recant. -
Alveoder Ginden discovers gravity
After coming to terms with the fact that his Kinetic Theory didn't work on a large scale, Alveoder Ginden took a more empiricist route. Through calculations, Ginden discovered gravity: a fundamental force of attraction between forces with mass. Correlating mass with attraction, Ginden's theory explained why Masser and Secunda orbited Nirn, proving Meanon correct. Ginden envisioned gravity as an Aedric force and correlated large bodies like planets and moons as being more full of Aedric power. -
Meanon imprisoned for his belief in Manrien's ideas
Meanon read one of Manrien's papers and attempted to prove the Imperial scientist wrong. However, his observations only served to prove her right. Meanon demonstrated that Kynareth and Nirn both had orbits that revolved around Magnus. Furthermore, his observations established that Magnus was not a hole, but a massive compact object of intense power. For his discoveries, Meanon was fired from Thalmori ranks and imprisoned, for questioning the ancient history of Mundus. -
Quadirah Mede becomes the Empress
After Solrolf Mede's death, Quadirah Mede was set to succeed as the Empress. However, her ascent was blocked by Regent Fainio Catius, who accused Quadirah of being a security risk, as she was born in the Republic of Hammerfell. Quadirah's charm allowed her to gain influential allies in the Elder Council, which overruled Catius's objections. She became the first Redguard to ascend to the Ruby Throne. Under her sensible rule, the Empire continued to explore the possibilities of Dwemeri technology. -
Magnucentrism proven
Meanon was released from jail after forty other scientists confirmed that Kynareth indeed had phases, just like Secunda and Masser. Disproving the former nirncentric consensus of divine physics, this new revelation forced major religions to change certain parts of Dawn Era history. It was assumed that as Magnus fled from Mundus to escape the chaos of creation, he must've allowed some of his power to coalesce into a compact luminous sphere of plasma and magic. -
Parachutes created
The Jarl of Whiterun wished to celebrate his 67th birthday by jumping down from the roof of Dragonsreach to gently glide into the crowd. Sadly, his Levitation abilities were seriously lacking. He tasked the Imperial Engineers to find a way to soften his fall. The Engineers came up with the idea of creating a large cloth sheet to catch the winds and deliver him safely to the ground. The parachute failed, brutally killing the Jarl, but later parachutes did work and were used for safe landing. -
Penitus Oculatus reveals a massive Thalmor spy ring
Nigipius Rusonia, a Penitus Oculatus agent, was tasked by Empress Quadirah Mede to investigate the exceptionally high crime rate of Bravil. After he went undercover as a skooma dealer, Rusonia discovered a massive 100-person strong spy ring in the city. Alarmingly, this spy ring reported directly to the Thalmor. After his discovery was made public, the spies were caught and imprisoned. The Thalmor claimed ignorance and disowned their spies as "maverick independent operators". -
First grenades produced by Orcs
Orcish engineers came up with the concept of a grenade: a hollow metallic ball, filled to the brim with red gunpowder. A tallowed wick protruded out from a narrow chamber, which was lit and thrown. 4/5 times the ball exploded, causing grave injuries to whoever was unfortunate enough to be hit. This invention, called the grenade, was used by the Orcs to secure their dominance in the Wrothgarian Mountains. -
Situation in the Federation of High Rock
Besides the Union of Morrowind, High Rock was the only area in Tamriel where a feudal system of employment reigned. Industrialization was deliberately avoided, as Bretonic rulers considered their subjects to be incapable of operating heavy machinery. All this led to growing discontent among Bretonic peasants, who demanded the social changes of Cyrodiil and Skyrim to be emulated in High Rock. -
The Mephala Incident
A blind prophet called Bemihri rose from humble roots to become the leader of a tribe named Mephala's Children. Bemihri worshiped Lord Mephala and claimed that she wished for Bemihri's followers to overthrow House Redoran and take over Morrowind. The Redoran were not amused and sent a squad to take Bemihri's followers out. After a two-day siege of their main encampment, Redoran forces used catapults to destroy their base, killing hundreds of Bemihri's followers. -
Mephala's retribution
Mephala was also not amused. Her revenge took the form of temporary dislocation: the Gre'Ruhn Palace of Blacklight, where meetings between important Redoran councilors took place, was temporarily cast into Mephala's realm of Spiral Skein. Within the realm, Mephala used her powers to force the councilors to have a week-long orgy with each other. After she had seen enough, Mephala returned them to Nirn. The councilors apologized for offending Mephala and prayed for purification. -
Horse-powered public transportation takes off
Using the highly efficient technology of employing horse-drawn carriages to ride on top of steel railroads, the Imperial Engineers constructed railways across the streets of the Imperial City to serve as a fast and a safe way to transport large numbers of people from one place to another. This invention eased horse traffic on the busy streets of Imperial City and considerably lessened commuting time for workers. -
Bladach Flaithach formed
Bretonic intellectuals in Daggerfall established the Bladach Flaithach (Mighty Nation in Bretic). It served as a club for thinkers driven by emergent Bretonic nationalism. The Bladach Flaithach called upon the Federation of High Rock to dissolve its feudal system, become an unitary state and instate a policy of national secularism. The Queen of Daggerfall considered the Bladach Flaithach to be a radical pressure group and ignored their demands. -
"Mereth" becomes popular
Dragon League began printing out a book titled "Mereth". The book told of a vast conspiracy theory, which involved both the Thalmor and the Emperor. According to the book, Thalmor had already infiltrated the Empire and were now working with the Imperial government to euthanize the menfolk, to clear Tamriel for Elvish expansion. Full of falsehoods, the book nonetheless became popular among the more paranoid citizens of the Empire. -
An excerpt from "Mereth"
"For he is weak, the scheming Elf must keep to the grand game of subversion. His solemn wish is to see the menfolk in chains, strewn across the hills of Cyrod. In this great dance of death, he is united with the septim-happy Elder Council, who enable the Elf to perpetuate his tasks with joy. There is a great force that shapes thought in menfolk, and that is the Press. Cyrod's greatest newspaper is the renowned Black Horse Courier. Owned by whom? Owned by the yellow-skinned Faencel clan." -
The Destruction of Temple of Kynareth
The Kingdom of Daggerfall commissioned the construction of the Temple of Kynareth, built in downtown Daggerfall. The cost of the completed structure was estimated to be 60 million septims, a truly large sum. In order to recoup the costs of the Temple, the Kingdom of Daggerfall sharply increased the taxation rates of peasants. This sparked off a large riot, during which angry Bretons torched the Temple and injured its clergy. The riot was violently dispersed by royal soldiers. -
Sunhold Method created
The Royal Wayfarers were tasked to turn the arid wastelands of Anequina into productive farmlands. Experimenting with various plants, the Wayfarers discovered a red-colored weed local to Sunhold, which seemed to grow endlessly in poor conditions. This weed was burned and its ashes were scattered onto the topsoil of Anequina. This allowed Anequinian soil to become a lot more fertile. The Sunhold Method was also adopted by the Dunmer to allow the fertilization of semi-arid regions in Vvardenfell. -
The Beautiful destroy the Grand Statue of Auriel

The loss of the statue anguished the Altmer and the Thalmor were dispatched to apprehend the criminals. -
First steam-powered ship built
The Imperial Engineers adapted an array of piston-powered steam machines to fit a ship built out of sheet metal and wood. Called the Pathkeeper, this ship became a proof of concept for the idea of using steam-powered ships to haul cargo between ports. Pathkeeper broke expectations by making a trip from Imperial City to Anvil twenty times faster than a sailship would. Empress Quadirah Mede was impressed by the Pathkeeper and commissioned a whole fleet from the Engineers. -
Industrial mining of glass, ebony and orichalcum begins
In Skyrim, huge deposits of magical materials like glass, ebony and orichalcum existed. However, mining such durable and strong materials on an industrial scale was next to impossible without the use of magic, which the Nords were unwilling to do. Wizards from Synod invented a brand of steam-powered hammers with enchanted Daedric tips, thereby solving the problem. Skyrim saw rapid economic growth as they began to exclusively export rare materials to other Tamrielic nations. -
The establishment of Federal Assembly
In order to relieve tensions between Bretonic peasants and the nobility, the Bladach Flaithach movement secured a promise of democracy from the Federation of High Rock. The Federal Assembly was established, an elective body of the Federation. It consisted of 100 deputies, 75 of whom were chosen by the Kings of High Rock. The Federal Assembly did nothing to lessen the taxation of Bretons and actively resisted all attempts to limit the absolute powers of Bretonic monarchs. -
Quadirah Mede dies, Regillian Mede becomes the new Emperor
Empress Quadirah Mede's reign was cut short by her sudden death from a congenital heart disease. As she was childless, searches began to find a new emperor. Regillian Mede, distant cousin of Titus Mede IV, was discovered working as a janitor in Kvatch. He was given a quick education on the principles of geopolitics and sworn in as the new Emperor. An uneducated, mentally unstable man, Regillian Mede was accosted by the Dragon League, who easily convinced Regillian to co-opt them in governance. -
Electricity harnessed for the first time on a minor scale
The Royal Wayfarers had a habit of hiring Destruction mages to produce magical electricity for their experiments. These people were called powerists. Ëarha Sinvilni was one such powerist. As the job itself was tedious and monotone, Ëarha looked for a way to make the process easier. She began to shock metallic balls, which she then presented to the Wayfarers as "pre-loaded electricity dispensers". Ëarha's laziness inspired the Wayfarers to investigate the field of electrostatics. -
Duchy of Wayrest faces bankruptcy
Duke Jaume Jaffrès of Wayrest spent almost all of the wealth of his state on his gambling habits. After he lost 35 million septims to an Orcish poker prodigy, the Duchy of Wayrest was left bankrupt. In order to pay federal and Imperial taxes, Duke Jaffrès hired two advisers, Adela Gwennou and Elar Faucheur, to carry out economical reforms. Bjern Cloud-Gobbler vs Kingdom of Skyrim
Every business owner in Skyrim had to pay a 20% royal tax to their local Jarl as a "loyalty & protection" tax. Bjern Cloud-Gobbler, a wealthy owner of an ebony mine in the Reach, was irate over the law. He decided to sue the Kingdom of Skyrim, arguing that the Jarls had no right to take money that he made due to his own personal success. Although the lawsuit was dismissed, Cloud-Gobbler's stand against unjust taxation evoked the curiosity of quite a few Nordic philosophers. -
Julianos discovered
Nazidal Ibn Hadan, the master of the Observatory of Hegathe, discovered a red-colored gas giant orbiting Magnus. As an avowed empiricist, Nazidal used the theory of gravity to surmise that a large object must've been influencing the orbit of Kynareth. The planet was named Julianos by the College of Whispers. As a devout believer of the Yokudan Pantheon, Nazidal was insulted by the hijacking of his discovery by Eight Divines worshipers. As a result, Julianos is known as Onsi in Hammerfell. -
Khajiit banned from Skyrim
During industrialization, Skyrim saw an influx of immigration. Many destitute immigrants arrived to work in the mines. Although the Khajiit constituted only 0.2% of Skyrim's population, they were claimed to cause most of Skyrim's societal issues. The High King of Skyrim decided to act on the advice of his Jarls and banned all Khajiit from settling in Skyrim. Social liberal societies in Haafingar and Whiterun protested the decision and fruitlessly petitioned their Jarls to reconsider the ban. -
Economic collapse in Federation of High Rock
The bankruptcy of the Duchy of Wayrest dragged the rest of High Rock towards an economic collapse. The Federation of High Rock was forced to take immense loans from banks in Skyrim, which buried all Bretonic kingdoms under a burden of debt. By 5E 95, 3/4 of the Federation's annual budget went towards the payment of national debt. This led to a new round of poll tax increases. Anger among Bretonic peasants grew and a dangerous revolutionary situation developed. -
Enrion's Law formulated
After discovering static electricity and harnessing it for the first time, Altmeri scientists researched the unknown force. Researcher Enrion Elsiuth became the first to formulate the theory behind electricity, believing that some kind of mysterious little arcane particles were the cause of static electricity. He called these particles "shocklets". Elsiuth correctly surmised that static electricity was tied to shock magic, and that the two powers were created through a similar process. -
Sirabiri discovers gravitational lensing
Ri'in-Dar Sirabiri, personal astronomer for Queen Khaz'a of Corinthe, discovered that Magnus, the large Magna Ge in the middle of the Magnal System, slightly bent light that came from more distant Magna Ge. Finding this phenomena curious, the astronomer unsuccessfully tried to explain the effect by religious means. The Sirabiri Effect, noted by few in its time, became an important discovery in the later Fifth Era and served as the cornerstone for two advanced physics theories. -
The Mad Emperor
Regillian Mede's reign was defined by his absolute disregard of social and diplomatic norms. When meeting with foreign dignitaries, he was usually drunk and demanded them to "kiss his thick arse". Regillian hated the Altmer and refused to meet with emissaries from the Dominion. As Regillian failed to learn the principles of governance, the Elder Council made important decisions for him. All of Emperor Regillian's advisers were members of the Dragon League. -
Dominion becomes a leader in textile production
Lacking the massive mineral resources of the Empire, the Aldmeri Dominion tried to find other sources of income. The plan proved to be successful and the operations were expanded to cover coastal Pelletine. Altmeri textiles became widespread in the Empire. -
A monetary reform is carried out in Skyrim
Finding it increasingly wasteful, cumbersome and difficult to pay workers and tax people with golden septims, the High King of Skyrim decided to introduce an array of new septims, made from fibrous paper and backed by gold. These new paper septims became the standard in Skyrim, easing taxation, banking and bookkeeping. The notes came from 2, 5, 10, 25, 50, 100, 500, 1000 and 5000 value ranges, all backed by a gold standard. -
Coal now used in most homes
The invention of steam power, coupled with the discovery of massive coal deposits in Skyrim, the Jerall Mountains, Eastern Morrowind, Northern High Rock, Northern Alinor and Anequina, made it possible for cheap and abundant coal to reach the homes of the common citizens of Tamriel. By the year of 5E 100, coal was used for heating by the majority of homes in Tamriel, replacing the formerly popular lumber and various magic-based technologies. -
Investigations into the Padomaic Wall
The Padomaic Wall, discovered during a failed expedition to Akavir, baffled Tamrielic researchers. Multiple ships were sent to investigate the Wall and bring back conclusive results. A research vessel staffed by House Telvanni wizards observed the Padomaic Wall and concluded that it resembled a gigantic version of the ancient Ghostfence shield. The Telvanni speculated that the purpose of the Padomaic Wall was to keep outsiders away from Akavir, for unknown reasons. -
