Decoded Japanese messages alerted the United States to the Japanese attack on New Guinea. Admiral Nimitz sent out the Yorktown and the Lexington carriers to stop them in the Coral Sea. The US attacks stopped the Japanese from going to Guineas coast and kept the supply lines open to Australia. -

The U.S stated island hopping which is when they only focus on lightly defended and useful islands. they would bypass heavily defended ones too. they did this because they were getting closer to japan. -

Troops went ashore in small boats. The Japanese tried to stop them but the marines captured Kwajalein and nearby Eniwetok islands with far fewer casualties. -

The landing craft hit the reef and could no longer move so troops had the walk and swim in shoulder-high water. 1 out of 3 troops made it to the beach and more then 1,000 marines died in the battle. -

It was the largest naval battle in history, It was also the first time that the Japanese used kamikaze attacks. after a while the Japanese commander, believed that more American ships were on the way and ordered a retreat.
