28 June 1914 Assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinan of Austria, hier to the Austro-Hungarian throne, and his wife Sophia, Duchess of Hohenberg, in Sarajevo, Bosinia, Austrio-Hungarian Empire, by the Bosnian Serb Gavrilio Princip, member of the Serbian nationalist, terrorist organization, the Black Hand, at aproximatley 11:30 PM, near the Latin bridge in Sarajevo, whilst the royal couple were at a state visit, traveling in an open-air motorcade.
