These soldiers served the leader directly such as Hitler. They were specialist soldiers and were some of the best in the army and would be put on hard missions. They were taught differently and are the top military force. -
Adolf Hitler's rise to power in Germany
He became the leader of the Nazi Party quiet quickly because of his power in public speeches. He also made a book when he was in jail and called it "My Struggles". By 1942 he had the strongest political party and was anounced prime minister in 1943. The depression in the country also helped Hitler because the people were desperate. -
Benito Mussolini's fascist government in Italy
Had totalitarian regime mostly by his influential speeches and after war effects. He said and did what the people wanted and ended up taking control by force. The fascist government put the state's interest above the individual. -
Joseph Stalin's totalitarian government in the Soviet Union
The people had no rights and the government was in complete control and the USSR was transformed to a strong industrial power, but at the price of million of people's life's. No one could stand up to government. -
Mein Kampf
Hitler was the author of this book which was wrote when he was in a jail cell. All the people in Germany most likely read the book and Hitler seemed to be proud of it. Sign of the Nazi Party. -
Japanese invasion of Manchuria
The Japanese were obsessed with expanding there empire and were going to do anything to do it. They were taught as if they had no human rights and they some how thought they could do the same to people that are lower rank than them. Anyone that was higher rank would treat the lower rank individuals as if they were slaves. The League of Nations conducted an investigation and found Japanese attack on China unjust and in turn, Japan quit the League of Nations. -
Third Reich
Translates to the Third German Empire and it replaced the Weimar Republic. Hitler did this as soon as he was in power and said it would last a thousands years; "Thousand-Year Reich". -
Hitler's military build-up in Germany
1933 Hitler pulled Germany out of the League and started building a military (publicly) in 1935. A year later he sent troops to Rhineland which was the borderland of France and Belgium and the League of Nations did nothing. -
Mussolini's invasion of Ethiopia
Ethiopia was one of the few independent countries in Africa. This was Mussolini's first target to expanding the Roman Empire. Tens of thousands of Italian soldiers attack Ethiopia and they won. The Ethiopian Emperor asked for assistance from the League but wasn't helped. -
Hitler invades the Rhineland
Was during military build up in Germany and Rhineland was a German region and since Germany was building it's military, they had to put troops there. -
Rome-Berlin Axis
Formed when Germany and Italy sent equipment to Spain to help build another totalitarian government in Europe. Franco was the fascist dictator of Spain. -
Francisco Franco
Rebelled against the Spanish Republic and was helped by Italy and Germany. He created totalitarian government in Spain and was successful. Made Spain a bit of a friend of Germany and Italy. -
Hitler's Anschluss
Hitler wanted to united all regions that had mostly Germans living there. His first country to create a union with was Austria, mostly because he was born there. League did nothing when he declared that they were united. -
Munich Agreement
Gave Sudetenland to Germany without any gun fire. Hitler promised that it'll be his final expansion of his country. It was a meeting between Germany, Britain, and France. Britain and France didn't desire war so they vacuously agreed. -
Nonaggression pact
Made between the USSR and Germany and they agreed never to attack each other. This was important to Germany mostly because they wouldn't have to worry about a two front war. Germany are down a major enemy and go through with expansion plans. -
Blitzkrieg
New tactic that translates to lightning war and is supposed to use modern weapons and advances to tanks and planes against the enemy. It ends battles as quick as possible. This was first time Germany tried their new tactic. Two days after, France and Britain declared war. At end of month the battle was over and there was no more Poland. Russia helped take the east side of Poland and had one third of countries population on the newly gained territory. -
Phony war
When a country declares war and doesn't do any military action. British and French forces prepared defenses in the Maginot line and Germany did the same but a few miles away on the Siegfried line. -
Britain and France declare war on Germany
After Germany attack Poland, they declared war. War ended by the end of the month that Germany attacked it, Russia took the east side of Poland. -
Hitler's invasion of Denmark and Norway
Called Operation Weserübung and was main to be closer to Britain and be able to attack more swifter. Hitler claimed that he was protecting their freedom and independence. -
Hitler's invasion of the Netherlands
It was the expansion plans and were the easier targets. These countries either would bring Germany closer to Britain or was a border state with France. -
Germany and Italy's invasion of France
Germany was first to attack France and Italy later joined WW2 by attacking France from the south. It helped divide the French forces and Germany closed in on them and later consumed France.Germany was successful in taking France because they were able to go through the Ardennes, which was undefended. -
Marshal Philippe Petain
Was put in charge of the Nazi controlled France. He set up Vichy in southern France. Made puppet government in France. -
The Battle of Britain
Was at first a easy target, but Germany couldn't reach them or have the man power and the RAF always knew where they were attacking from. They created the radar. -
Lend-Lease Act
Give help to countries that were vital to the USA protection. If a neighbor's house was on fire then you would let them barrow your hose so the fire won't spread to your house. -
Office of Price Administration
OPA fought inflation by freezing the prices of most goods in the USA . The congress had increased the taxes and made more people pay tax and that made more people want to buy a war bond. -
Pearl Harbor attack
Brought the USA in the war and was launched by Japan. It was a surprise air attack on a navy base in Pearl Harbor. This attack killed about three thousand Americans and angered the USA. -
Battle of the Atlantic
Started as soon as WW2 started and was fought for until the very end of WW2. Hard battle to dominate but once the USA was able to increase the production of ships more than the destruction of them, immensely, then it became easier. -
War Productions Board
The WPB assumed control of war forces and war industries had the resources that they needed to win the war. Sent a lot of supplies to war industries and encouraged recycling. -
Battle of Stalingrad
USSR was going to lose but the winter helped them and Hitler's pride. It was mostly by luck and Stalin's cruel ways of war and fighting. Turned the tide of war with USSR and Germany. -
Internment
The term used to show that the USA took the Japanese of the country and put in camps and made them sell nearly all their property. Was horrible for the Japanese and there was a lot of prejudice. The government only took one percent of the population of Japanese in Hawaii . -
Women’s Auxiliary Army Corps
Women did nearly every duty except direct combat. It was seen as a joke at first but the work force was needed because of low man power. Some said that women even did the work better than women. -
U.S. convoy system
Helped the Allies win dominate in the war of the sea and helped decrease the ship casualties. Had merchant ships travel with airplanes, submarines, and battleships which increased protection and destroyed opposition quickly. -
Operation Torch
A British and USA attack on French northern Africa during the North
African Campaign. The allies were successful in taking all of Africa from the axis powers and helped them get an edge over the war. -
Unconditional surrender
The only way for the axis powers to surrender was to do it unconditionally and was created by Britain and the USA. This was really bad for the axis powers but good for the allies. -
Bloody Anzio
Last battle before the allies got men in Germany and had to put up a big fight and won the battle with around five thousand less casualties than the axis powers. The allies couldn't free Italy wasn't successful until Germany itself was close to collapse in 1945. -
D-Day
Biggest surprise attack success in all of history. The allies hit the axis powers unexpectedly and got a gate way into Nazi controlled France. There were many casualties but was a big success and victory. -
Korematsu v. United States
He went against the USA and said what they were doing to the Japanese was not right and ended up winning his case in about a month. -
The Battle of the Bulge
In the war the German gathered their prisoners and shoot them. Hitler hoped that it would divide British and American forces, but they ended up losing many planes, tanks, and men. After that, the Germans could really only retreat. -
Harry S. Truman
Thirty third president because of Roosevelt death on the twelve of April. He died while he was taking a picture in Warm Springs, Georgia because of a stroke. -
Death of Hitler
He was afraid that the Soviets would hang his body in public like they did to Mussolini and his family. He took a couple poisonous pills and shot him self and after he was burned. -
V-E Day
End of war in Europe and was when Germany and Italy surrendered to the allies unconditionally. -
Manhattan Project
It was the project that would give way to the atomic bomb. The first bomb made and used was by America.
