"El Bogotazo!" Participates in Political Rioting in Bogota, Colombia
Takes part in the brutal riots in Bogotá Bogotazo, a series of riots in Bogotá, Colombia. After the assassination of Liberal leader Jorge E. Gaitán (1902–1948) Castro joined the mobs engaging in ad hoc attacks against Colombian authorities with other pro-Gaitán supporters. Makes his first contact with engaged Communists involved in aggressive resistance. Colombian police had an arrest warrant for him when he left the country with the help of the Cuban embassy. -
Batista elected senator
Batista is handily elected as Senator from Las Villas, running from Florida. Feeling he is not likely to be persecuted in Cuba, and that many people hold him in esteem, he returns with parliamentary immunity.

Fidel & Mirta Diaz-Balart Marry
Returning from his adventure in Colombia, Fidel marries Mirta Diaz-Balart on 11 October 1948. They honeymoon in New York City. That same year, Pres. Grau announces he will not seek another term, citing too much political unrest may follow and The People's distaste for his administration.

Batista arrives in Havana
With personal guarantees from the president as to his safety, Fulgencio Batista boarded a plane for Havana. Receives a warm reception, a crowd of thousands, upon arrival. He will continue living in Cuba and in Daytona, still unsure for his safety and is testing his political viability.

Batista arrives in the senate
As opposed to his warmer reception on arrival, he is treated cooly here. The Senate humbles him with a sophomoric prank: a fellow senator drops a tie pin on Batista’s chair which the general sat on, causing him to jump up in pain.He will be given rights to vote in absentia , should he feel that his life is threatened.

Lansky falls in love and remarries in Cuba, Batista attends
In a whirlwind courtship fast after his divorce, Lansky and a manicurist and divorcée named Thelma “Teddy” Schwartz fell for each other. They flew down to Cuba and married in Vedado. Batista attends the wedding
