Apaches Arrive in Texas
Apaches begin to settle in Texas Territory. They spread out through most of Texas. Apaches begin a new way of life. -
Los Adaes becomes the new capital of Texas.
Los Adaes becomes the very first capital of Texas in 1721. Texas is not independent though. They begin a new government. -
San Antonio becomes the new capital of Texas.
It took only one year for San Antonio to become the new capital of Texas. The New Capital is acknowledged by many of the citizens. Texas is not independent yet. -

Texas had its first newspaper published. It was published in Nacogdoches. It was called "Gaceta de Texas" and was founded by Jose Alvarez de Toledo. -
Mexico wins independence from Spain.
Mexico, after years, finally wins independence from Spain. Mexico then tries to take on Texas. They lose the war and all of the land of Texas. -
Austin settles in Texas
Stephen F. Austin settles in Texas. He played an important role in Texas History. Austin was named after this hero. -
The Texas Rangers are formed.
The Texas Rangers organization is officially established. It was made by Texas' provisional government. Stephen F. Austin wanted to protect the raided towns, though, not fight the raiders. -
Battle of the Alamo
Texas fights at San Antonio for independence from Mexico. They try to gain independence. It is one of the most rememberable battles of all in Texas History. -
Texas gains freedom
Texas wins independence from Mexico. This happened at the Alamo in San Antonio. They form the Republic of Texas. -
Declaration of Independence is Adopted.
The Texas Declaration of Independence is adopted. It was adopted at Washington-on-the-Brazos. They declared freedom from Mexico. -
The Republic is Recognized
The Republic of Texas is finally recgonized as its own country. The acknowledgers are the U.S., France, England, the Netherlands, and Belgium. It is highly acknowledged. -
Austin becomes new Capitol
Austin becomes the newest capitol of Texas. It was dedicated to the hero Stephen F. Austin. It remains as the present capital. -
Sam Houston is elected President of the Republic.
Sam Houston is elected the President of the newly formed Republic of Texas. The government at this point is weak and fragile. Mexico lost the war and Texas gained freedom. -
Anson Jones becomes President of the Republic
Anson Jones becomes the new President of the new Republic of Texas. The Government is still at its peak. The Republic is trying to get the United States to accept them. -
Texas is accepted.
The United States of America accepted the Republic of Texas. Texas becomes the 28th State. Texas, unfortunately, still has slavery. -
The Compromise of 1850
Texas had to give up most of its land. It included part of Colorado, Oklahoma, half of New Mexico, and other states. Texas kept its public land. -
Texas's First Railroad Operates.
The first railroad in Texas begins to run. It was chartered b the state government. Other railroads begin operation in 1853. -
Sam Houston is Governor.
The Republic of Texas is no more. The new state of Texas has elected Sam Houston as Governor of their state. There is tension now between the North and the South. -
Texas joins the Confederacy.
Texas had slavery. That meant they would join the Confederate States of America. The Civil War has begun. -
Sam Houston Resigns
Sam Houston was Governor of Texas twice. He didn't want to secede fromthe Union. He left office. -
Slavery Ends.
Slavery has ended. It is now banned in all states of the Union, but the Confederacy found a loophole! They would not give up their slaves because of the Emancipation Proclomation. -
The War Ends.
The Civil War ends in the U.S. Reconstruction begins in the Condfederacy. Tennessee is accepted into the Union later on. -
Edmund J. Davis becomes governor.
Edmund J. Davis becomes the governor of Texas. He was the first Republican Governor of Texas. Texas remains as a Republican state. -
New State Constitution is made.
A new State Constitution is adopted. It was formed because of Reconstruction. It is still the Constitution we use today. -
Hurricane hits Galveston.
An unexpected hurricane hits the Texas Coast. Many lives were lost. It was the deadliest and most destructive hurricane in U.S. History. -
Oil is Discovered.
Oil is discovered at Spindletop, Texas. Many gallons of black gold were lost. There was so much pressure that it shot out of the top of the well! -
Ferguson is impeached.
Governor James Ferguson is impeached. He is also convicted. He leaves office. -
Another Ferguson takes office.
Miriam "Ma" Ferguson, a woman, becomes Governor of Texas. She is the wife of impeached Governor James Ferguson. She served as a figurehead for her husband. -
Texas celebrates 100 years.
Texas celebrates 100 years of independence from Mexico. Mexico still has not regained Texas back from the Union. Celebrations occur all across the state. -
Dwigh D. Eisenhower becomes President.
Dwight D.l Eisenhower became President of the U.S. He was the first Texas-born President. He is greatly admired by us Texans. -
Tornado obliterates Waco.
A tornado in Waco killed 114 people. It injured 597. 150 homes and 185 other buildings were demolished. -
JFK is Assassinated
John Fitzgerald Kennedy was the President of the United States at that time. Sadly while on a trip in Dallas, he was shot and killed by Lee Harvey Oswald. Texas and other states suffer mourning. -
NASA opens a space center.
NASA opens a space center in Houston, Texas. The state is excited to see it. The new moon landings begin with this center. -
Barbara Jordan is in the Senate.
Barbara Jordan becomes the first African American senator from Texas. She gave hope to the United States to abolish racism and segregation. Barbara gave an influence to other African Americans. -
Man on the Moon
NASA puts the first man on the moon. The Space Race has come to a halt as Russia has been dominated by the U.S. The first man on the moon is Neil Armstrong. -
Rick Perry becomes Governor
Rick Perry became Governor of Texas. Today, he is still the governor. Rick Perry is the longest serving governor in Texas History. -
George W. Bush becomes President of the U.S.
George W. Bush became President of the United States. He was the son of former president George H.W. Bush. He was the former Governor of Texas. -
World Trade Bridge opens.
Citizens of Laredo were excited to see a new bridge. The new World Trade Bridge was opened. It connects the U.S. to Mexico. It plays an important role in the HIspanic population in the south.
