Austin becomes the newest capitol of Texas. It was dedicated to the hero Stephen F. Austin. It remains as the present capital.

Dwight D.l Eisenhower became President of the U.S. He was the first Texas-born President. He is greatly admired by us Texans.

A tornado in Waco killed 114 people. It injured 597. 150 homes and 185 other buildings were demolished.

John Fitzgerald Kennedy was the President of the United States at that time. Sadly while on a trip in Dallas, he was shot and killed by Lee Harvey Oswald. Texas and other states suffer mourning.

NASA opens a space center in Houston, Texas. The state is excited to see it. The new moon landings begin with this center.

Barbara Jordan becomes the first African American senator from Texas. She gave hope to the United States to abolish racism and segregation. Barbara gave an influence to other African Americans.
