While visiting his relatives, Till went to the store with his cousins, and may have whistled at Carolyn Bryant. Her husband and brother-in-law kidnapped and brutally murdered Till, dumping his body in the Tallahatchie River. The newspaper coverage and murder trial galvanized a generation of young African Americans to join the Civil Rights Movement

    The Kissing Case was the arrest, conviction and lengthy sentencing of two prepubescent African-American boys in 1958 in North Carolina. James Thompson and his friend David Simpson were accused of kissing a girl who was white. The truth was that the white girl kissed them both on the cheek and told her mom about it. Her mom felt angry and approiached the boys with her husband with shotguns and acussed them of rape of their Daughter.
