Second Triumvirate After being defeated by Octavian, Marc Antony abandons his army and flees with Cleopatra. They commit suicide in 30 B.C., but in an unusual way. Antony had believed Cleopatra dead already, so he killed himself. However, she actually wasn't dead, but when she sees that he is dead, she subsequently kills herself too. This is what inspired Romeo and Juliet.
