Grant wins Battle at Shiloh
Image CreditIn Ceantral Tennessee a battle was fought called the Battle of Shiloh. This battle was one of the most bloodiest battles in U.S. history. With a high cost of men the Union ended up winning this battle. -

Lee wins Pyrrhic victory at Chancellorsville

The South won the battle at Chancellorsville but with a huge price. General Stonewall Jackson. Lee's right hand, was accidentally shot by another Confederate. He didn't die until eight days later of pneumonia. -
Union wins at Gettysberg

Sherman's troops begin march through Georgia

Then many strong forces were ordered to raze property and destroy everthing that could help the South to keep fighting in the war. Now the focus was to split the South again. -

Lincoln toured the Confederate capital after Jefferson Davis had left the capital. Then Lincoln tour ed Davis's house and city after Lee and his armies departed west of the capital. -
Saylor's Creek last battle?
Image Credit The battle at Saylor's Creek that only lasted only one day resulted in a Unoin victory. About 8,000, one-third, of Lee's Confederate troops surrendered. This was a sign that the war was coming to a near end. -
Lee surrenders to Grant
Image Credit On Palm Sunday in the home of Wilmer McLean at Appottamox Court House Lee finally surrendered after a three-hour meeting. With the surrender comes its terms that the South must hand over their supplies and weapons but can keep their weapons and private horses. The only thing that Lee did not surrender was his sword. -
