Neutral Ground Agreement

Father Hidalgo launches revolt against Spanish rule
Father Hidalgo let out his grito on 9-16-1810 “Long live Religion! Long live our Blessed Mother Guadalupe! Long live Ferdinand VII and death to bad government!” surrounded in a crowd in the town of Delores. His speech jump started the mexican war for independence ending the spanish rule in Mexico. (117)

Casas Revolt in Texas fails; Father Hidalgo executed
This was the first revolt against spanish rule led by Juan Bautista on 1-21-1811 in San Antonio. Although this rebellion was unsuccessful it spiked many challenges on the spanishs rule and authority over its people. (118)

Gutiérrez–Magee expedition begins invasion of Texas
This expedition took place on August,1812 and was led by Gutiérrez and Magee in Nacogdoches. Upon arrival the local troops were unwilling to fight. This expedition showed texas that complete peace was not an option furthermore weakening the spanish control.

Battle of Three Trees,
This battle took place in 1817 on Galveston island led by a pirate leader named Jean Laffite were they murdered 30 Karankawas. This battle did not necessarily affect the spanishs rule but rather shows that there rule was weak in Texas due to the resistance from the Native American tribes. (124)

The Adams Onis treaty took place February 1819 and this treaty created line establishing the territories of Spain and the U.S. Spain lost florida furthermore diminishing their rule of their American territories. (128)
