Stephen F. Austin is a genius! I am so happy to be living in Texas! Everything is great, but I wish there weren't so many requirements to come like becoming catholic and becoming loyal to Texas. Oh well, I'm just happy to be here! -
Stephen F. Austin settles 300 colonist in Texas
Moses Austin laid the foundation for this colony in Texas during late 1820 and 1821, but died before he could get the families to go. So Stephen decided to help and make it possible. He went to San Antonio de Bexar and got an empressario contract for 300 families to go to Texas. All of the settlers had to agree to become loyal to the Mexicans, have good character, become catholic, and be able to fend for
themselves. The colony was very successful.

Fredonian Rebellion: Texas Loses
It's all Stephen F. Austins fault! If he hadn't sided with Mexico and come down to Texas we Texans would have taken power over Texas and had our own laws by now! -
Fredonian Rebellion
Hayden and Benjamin Edwards were two brothers that revolted the Mexicans and their Government when they didnt get their way in trying to get more land. Stephen F. Austin sided with the Mexican government and was sent to Texas with Mexican troops to put down the revolt. The brothers left Texas as soon as they found out! Mier y Teran Report
The Mexican government has become very suspicous of Texas after the increasing number of settlers after the Fredonian Rebellion. In 1828 they sent General Manuel Mier y Teran to investigate the conditions in Texas. He spent about a year in Texas wandering around and learning what they lived like. He worte a letter sayingthe anglo Americans outnumbered mexicans 10 to 1. He also wrote that Mexico must gain control over Texas.

Mier y Teran has no right coming to Texas and snooping around! I wish he could have left sooner! He is one of Santa Anna's little helpers! grr! We Texans hate him! -
Law of April 6, 1830
The Law of April 6, 1830 is a law created by the Mexicans that states there will be no more immigration into Texas by Americans, all empressario grants will be cancelled, there will be no more slaves in Texas, and there will be tax on custom duties from the United States coming in and going out. The Law of April 6, 1830 is awful!! They have no right taking away empressario grants and not allowing me to have slaves that I paid for with my own money! There is no way I am paying tax on goods from the US! That's the worst one of all! -
The Turtle Bayou Resolutions
The settlers at Turtle Bayou sent John Austin to Brazoria to bring a cannon. While the settlers waiting they made the Turtle Bayou Resolution that stated they were loyal to Mexico, and followed Santa Anna. Before Austin returned Colonel Jose de las Piedras who commanded the Mexican troops learned of what happened in Anahuac and decided to investigate. When he got there he ordered Tavis and Jacks release.

The Turtle Bayou Resolution
I am very happy that Jose de las Pierdras let travis and Jack go! The Turtle Bayou Resolution was ok, but they pleged there loyalty to Santa Anna. I personaly don't like Santa Anna! -

Convention of 1833
Texans were pleased with there early victories but unhappy with some decisions by the Mexican government. The colonist asked for the repeal of the Law of April 6, 1830. Officials in San Antonio refused to send Texans request to Mexican officials. The right to petitiion the government was not guarenteed under the Mexican system.

Stephen F. Austin is Arrested
Stephen F. Austin was arrested because he wrote an angry letter to the Texans about the Mexicans, but the Mexicans intercepted the letter. He was accused of treason, but he never really went to court. He spent one year in Mexico City. Texas History Book

The Mexicans have no right taking Austin to jail! All he did was express his opinions to us in the letter and the Mexicans had no right reading that private letter! -
Conflict at Anahuac
It wasn't right putting Tavis and Jack in jail. All Travis wanted was to get Logan's slaves back to him! It's good thing those colonist protested and made Bradburn let them out of jail. -
Conflict at Anahuac
William T. Logan came from the United States to Anahuac in search of two of his slaves who had run away. He hired a attorney named William B. Travis to represent him. Travis tried to trick Bradburn into releasing the slaves by giving a note to one of he guards saying that Logan had returned with armed men. Bradburn then alerted his troops. When no one showed up Bradburn ordered Travis's arrest. Colonists ordered Travis's release along with Jack's. Bradburn let them out.

Battle of Gonzales
The Battle of Gonzales was when the Mexicans wanted a cannon, but the Texans didn't want to give it up so they hid it under a peach orcherd. When the Mexicans came the Texans got the cannon and took the first shot at the Mexicans. They also hung a flag on the cannon saying "Come and Take it". Texas History Book

Battle of San Antonio
The Battle of San Antonio was when the Texans learned that Cos was low on supplies so they planned an attack in San Antonio. Hendrick Arnold was one of the first to fall. The fighting was very fierce. The fighting stopped when Cos hoisted a white flag of surrender. The Mexicans agreed to give the Texans all the supplies, money, arms, and property held by the Mexicans in San Antonio. Texas History Book

Convention of 1836
The delegates gathered at Washington for the second meeting of the Consultation, also known as the Convention of 1836. The delegates declared Texas independence day March 2. They had written the Constitution in 2 weeks. Texas History book

Battle of the Alamo
Some people think that Santa Anna attcked the alamo for politica, not military reasons. For 13 days Mexican cannonballs hit the Alamowhile they prepared for battle. By March 5 about 1,800 Mexican troops had surrounded the Alamo. The battle lasted 90 minutes. The Mexicans had won. Texas History Book

The battle of the Alamo was very devastating to Texans. The Mexicans had one and almost all of our men died or were taken to be prisoners of the Mexicans. -
Massacure at Goliad
Americans traveled to Texas for advantage and future land grants. Lots of them hadn't taken a oath to Mexican citizens. They expected to be sent back to the US. Although Fannin signed an unconditional surrender Santa Anna ordered for all of them to be shot. The rest of the men including Fannin were executed later. -

Battle of San Jacinto
Sam Houston allowed is army to decide when they wanted to fight. On April 21 the main part of the battle came. At first, Houstons troops of 800 outnumbered Santa Anna's, but Santa Anna got reinforcements. The Texans shouted as they crossed the battlefield "Remember the Alamo, Remember Goliad." The Mexicans scrambled in confusion and the battle lasted 18 minutes. The Texans had won. Texas History book

The Treaties of Velasco were by president David G. Burnet and Santa Anna. The public treaty states that Santa Anna will not take up arms, or exercise his influence to cause them to be taken up against the people of Texas during the present war of Independence. The Mexican troops will also leave Texas!
