When Thomas Jefferson was president, he made a deal with Napoleon that got the United States 282,000,000 square miles of the French Territory. Since France was having financial problems, and war was upon them, they needed the money. Therefore, they sold the entire territory of Louisiana, for less than 3 cents an acre, to Thomas Jefferson for $15 million. This doubled the USA and gave us control of the Mississippi River.

Meriwether Lewis and William Clark went on expedition in the newly purchased Louisiana Territory. The land at the time was uncharted and was a mystery to everyone except the Native Americans that lived their. Lewis' and Clark's mission was to create maps of the territory and to discover plants and animals new to the science of that time.

On October 2nd, 1835, the Spanish allowed Americans to settle in Texas (which was owned by Mexico at the time). The Spanish wanted the Americans to populate Texas so that Mexican citizens wouldn't have to. When the land in Texas was populated by Americans, the Spanish wanted the Americans to move out of Texas. The Americans wanted to keep Texas, so they went to war with Mexico and won.

In the Spring of 1846, the Donner Party decided to take a "shortcut" to the West, but this ended up adding more time to their journey. During their trip through the mountains, they got caught in a snow storm that halted their journey. During the time that they were stuck in the mountains and ran out of food. After eating bark, dirt, and other non-food items, they decided that their best chance of survival was to eat the dead. In other words, they turned to cannibalism.

In the 1840's and the 1850's, people from all over the world were flocking to California in hopes of getting rich. At the time, many prospectors were finding gold in California, but only a lucky few got rich. Although not many made it big from the gold, many people did make a lot of money by establishing restaurants, shops, and other businesses. Since there was an influx of people coming to California, many of the businesses there got a ton of business, therefore getting them lots of money.

This was a monumental war fought in the Civil War. Since this was the farthest war fought North, the Union had the home turf advantage, but that battle was not easily won. After three days of fighting and many casualties, the Union won the battle. This was the battle that could have changed the outcome of the world in the South's favor if they had won.
