Chinese Exclusion Act
The Chinese Exclusion Act was passed by congress and it prohibited Chinese immigrants from entering the country and the right to citizenship because on the racial tensions and labor unrest. -
The Dawes Act
The Dawes Act allowed the president to divide native American land. This resulted in natives losing large amounts of land and it weakened tribal structure within native communities. -
Spanish-American War
The Spanish-American war was a short conflict between Spain and America and started because of the sinking of the USS Maine which America blamed Spain for. At the end of the war the US gained control of several formerly Spanish colonies in the western hemisphere. -
US joins World War l
The US joined WWl in 1917 because of the intersection of the Zimmerman telegraph which was a message from Germany sent to Mexico that said Mexico should invade the US. In the telegram Germany promised Mexico with the land they had lost in the Mexican-America war. -
Harlem Renaissance
The Harlem Renaissance was a cultural and artistic movement taking place in the Harlem area of New York. This movement saw a growth of African American literature, music, art, and pride in black identity. -
Prohibition Begins
The 18th amendment banned the manufacture, sale and transportation of alcohol bringing a start to prohibition. Due to the ban on alcohol speakeasies started to pop up. Speakeasies were hidden places that sold alcohol and were mostly run by organized crime groups. -
Start of the Great Depression
The Great Depression started when the stock market crashed and because of how many people and banks had invested money into the stock market the entire economy of the US suffered. Banks didn't have the money to give people and people didn't have money to pay off their loans from the bank. employment was at an all time high and the government was doing very little to fix the issues at hand. -
Attack on Pearl Harbor
Japan launched a surprise attack and bombed the military base of Pearl Harbor on Hawaii. This attack pushed America into officially joining World War ll. -
Manhattan Project
The Manhattan Project was a secret research and development project in New Mexico that made the first nuclear weapons and the successful atomic bomb. -
Bombing of Hiroshima
The atomic bomb made as a result from the Manhattan project was drop onto the Japanese city of Hiroshima in order to push Japan into surrendering from World War ll. -
End of world War ll
The Paris Peace Treaties was signed marking the end to World War ll. The treaties established peace between the Allies and Axis powers including territorial adjustments, and reparations. -
NATO is Formed
The North Atlantic Treaty Organizations was formed as a result of WWll and to provide collective security against the Soviet Union and its power over eastern Europe. NATO also established an alliance between America and several European countries. -
Beginning of the Korean War
The Korean War started when North Korea started an invasion of South Korea. Because of the Truman doctrine which is supposed to stop the spread of communism, America joins the conflict. At the end of the war Korea was split into the North and South among the 38th parallel. -
Brown V Board of Education
Brown V The Board of Education was a court case that worked its way up until it arrived at the supreme court. In the end the supreme court decided that the segregation of public schools violated the 14th amendment. -
Start of the Vietnam War
The Vietnam War was a result of the tension between the communist government of North Vietnam and the Viet Cong and the government of South Vietnam and the United States. The war ended with North Vietnam winning and unifying all of Vietnam under communist rule. -
Bay of Pigs Invasion
The Bay of Pigs Invasion was a failed attempt from America to overthrow Fidel Castro's communist Regime in Cuba. The Invasion led to a quick and shameful defeat of the Americans. -
Cuban Missile Crisis
The Cuban Missile Crisis was a conflict during the cold war that started because the US found that the Soviet Union was transporting and keeping nuclear missiles into Cuba. As a result the US put a blockade around Cuba to stop the Soviet Union from getting the missiles into Cuba. -
March on Washington
The March on Washington was a large moment in the civil rights movement. There were many powerful figures within the civil rights movement including Martin Luther King Jr where he gave his famous "I have a dream" speech. -
Apollo 11 Lands on the Moon
Apollo 11 was the first man operated that landed on the moon. The landing was televised all across the world and was a large moment in space travel. It was also a large victory for the United States in the space race against the Soviet Union. -
9/11 Attacks
On the morning of September 11th a series of four coordinated terrorist attacks on the world trade center and the Pentagon. This was the most devastating terrorist attack on American soil and lead to the War on Terror.
