The Lusitania was carrying 1,201 passengers off the Irish coast when a German U-Boat torpedoes the ship, it sunk in 18 minutes killing everyone including 128 Americans.
Significant because this made President Wilson unable to stay neutral since Americans were getting killed and leads to the United States entering the war. -
