Birth of Khadijah
Khadijah was born in 555. She was the daughter of Khuwaylid ibn Asad and Fatimah bint Za'idah. Later she inherited her father's wealth and business talents. She later earned three titles, Ameerat-Quraish (Princess of Quraish) and al-Tahira (the Pure One), and Khadija Al-Kubra (Khadija the Great). -

Muhammad is Born
Muhammad was born on April 26 in 570 in Makkah. He was born into a merchant family, and orphaned at 5 years old. Later in life he was a caravan manager. -

Chichen Itza Built
Chichen Itza is a large pre-Columbian archaeological site built by the Maya civilization. It was built in the Northern center of the Yucatan Peninsula. In the Maya lowlands Chichen Itza was a major focal point, through the Early Postclassic Period. -

Receiving of Revelations
Around the age of 40, it was believed that Muhammad started retreating to the hills to meditate. During one of these vistis, Muslims believe, Muhamad received revelations from God. These messages were given to him by the angel Gabriel. These teachings were later written down in the Quran. -

Revolt against Heraclius
This was a Jewish inurrection against the Byzantine Empire, to come to the aid of Persia. The revolt began with the Battle of Antioch. The revolt ended with departure of the Persian troops and an eventual surrender of Jewish rebels to Byzantines. -

Starting of Teachings
Three years after Muhammad recieved the revelations, he began his teachings. He proclaimed that "God is One", that complete "surrender" to Him is the only way acceptable to God, and that he himself was a prophet and messenger of God. -

Meccan boycott of the Hashemites
The leaders of Makhzum and Banu Abd-Shams declared a public boycott against the clan of Banu Hashim, according to tradition. Banu Hashim was their commercial rival. Their boycott terms included, "that no one should marry their women nor give women for them to marry; and that no one should either buy from them or sell to them, and when they agreed on that they wrote it in a deed." -

Islamic Calendar
This was the first year for the Islamic calendar, which is still in use today. It is also commonly known as the Hijri calendar. This calendar consists of 12 lunar months, and helps to determine which day to celebrate Islamic holy days and events. -

Moving North to Yathrib
Year 1 of the Islamic calendar, Muhammad and his supporters left Makkah and moved notrh to Yathrib, later named Madinah. This journey is known at Jijrah. -

Bedouins
As Muhammad moved towards Madinah, there he won the support from people in Madinah. He also won the support from Arabs in the desert, these people were known as bedouin. These groups formed the first community of practicing Muslims. -

Age of Islamic Expansion
The Muslims were able to conquer Iraq, and would later invade Egypt.They were even able to bring Alexandria under control. At this time they also would begin the conquest of Syria. -

Return to Makkah
Muhammad returned to Makkah with 10,000 men.The city surrendered, and most of the people were converted to Islam. Muhammad then declared the Kaaba a sacred shrine of Islam. -

Muhammad's Death
Just two years after his return to Makkah, and as Islam was spreading through the Arabian Peninsula, Muhammad died. This then encouraged all Muslims to make a pilgrimage to Makkah, known as hajj. -
Tang Dynasty
The Tang Dynasty begins in China in 618 and lasted nearly 300 years until 907. Early Tang rulers began their reign by instituting reforms, as rulers did in the early days of dynasties. They gave land to peasants and broke up the power of the owners of the large estates. Restored civil service examinations to serve as chief method of recruiting officials for civilian bureaucracy. -
The Sui Dynasty
The Sui Dynasty began in 589 and preceeded the Tang Dynasty. The Sui Dynasty was founded by Emperor Wen of Sui. His reign helped reunite Northern and Southern China, it also saw the construction of the Grand Canal. -
Marriage to Ayesha
Muhammad was married to the very young Ayesha after the death of his first wife. She was only six or seven when she was betrothed to Muhammad, but was about nine when the marriage was consummated. Ayesha is often described as Muhammad's most beloved wife.
