    Mandela was appointed honorary Secretary of the All-In National Action Council, and organized a “stay-at-home” strike for black African workers Mandela is arrested for violating the Suppression of Communism Act. He is found guilty and sentenced to nine months in prison but the imprisonment is suspended him for two years.

    Nelson Mandela was put in jail in 1964, at the age of 46, he was kept in jail on Robben Island until he was 66. For the next two years he was shipped off to Pollsmoor Prison, in Cape Town. While in prison in Mandela still made an impact on the movement against the aparthied by educating the other prisoners. Mandela was considered one of three leaders on Robben Island who took a stand against apartheid and fought against the system.
