    The United States defeated Spain and gained territories such as Puerto Rico and Guam. They bought the Philippines from Spain for $20 million and had control over Caribbean countries.

    The luxury British liner hit an iceberg while voyaging, killing over 1500 people. Because of the sinking of the "unsinkable ship" numerous new maritime safety laws and regulations were put in place.

    Gave women the right to vote. Ended the suffrage movement. Leaders like Susan B. Anthony's efforts were recognized by the government.

    Allied invasion of Normandy, France. Major casualties but still considered an Allied victory because they were able to secure the beach and gain entry near Germany.

    After the war had ended, Japan was still fighting America in the Pacific. The force the surrender President Truman decides to drop 2 atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

    Through the Truman Doctrine, the U.S. will aid any country under communist threat. When South Korea was invaded by the North and communist China, the US stepped in to aid.

    Desegregated schools in the south. This ruling reversed the ruling of Plessy v. Ferguson (1896) which said there was a right to separate students. Thurgood Marshall fought and won this case.

    He was killed in an open car traveling in Dallas, TX. His Vice President, Lyndon B. Johnson, assumed the presidency after his death. Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone in his murder.

    He was a pioneer in the movement for equal rights of African Americans. He gave the "I have a Dream" speech and wrote "Letter from a Birmingham Jail." His death was a nation wide tragedy because of the things he fought for.

    It was the ending of the Space Race with Russia. Landing fulfilled JFK's declaration that they would put a man on the moon by the end of the decade. Through the NASA program, STEM is taught in school and new inventions were created.

    This symbolized the end of the Cold War. This reunited Germany after its separation after World War 2. The communist ruled side and the democratic side were finally put back together.

    Terrorist attack on the US by al-Qaeda. Was a nation wide recognition on terrorist groups and their intentions for Americans. Killed nearly 3,000 people including damage to the Pentagon and the destruction of the World trade Center.

    He was killed by an officer in Minneapolis, MN. This sparked a revival of an equal rights movement in America forcing racial and police reforms. There were nationwide protests about the police brutality involved.
