La Salle
Sieur de Lasalle created Fort St. Louis in Matagorda Bay and formed the basis for French claim on Texas. He was later murdered by two of his own men. -

Stephen F Austin Grant
austin recieved a Grant from from the Mexican goverment and statrted colonization in the regin of the Brazos River. -
Mexican Independence
The constitution in 1824 gave Mexico ist own kind of republic goverment but then failed to explain the rights states within the republic, including Texas. -
Austin imprisoned
Coloni leaders made Austin travel to Mexico City and show the goverment the list of demands. Santa anna refused and threw him in jail. -
Battle at Gonzales
Texans stole part of the Mexican cavalry. Santa Anna wanted it back and the Texans said come and take it thus statred the Battle of Gonzalez. -
Battle of Alamo
William B. Travis and Jim Bowie lead the Texans under a two week- siege against Santa Anna and the Mexican army in an abandened missionary. -

The term Runaway Scrape was the name Texans applied to the flight from their homes when Antonio López de Santa Anna began his attempted conquest of Texas after word they were gathering on the Rio Grnade. -

400 Texans including James Fannin were exacuted at Goliad under Santa Anna's order after the Battle at Gonzalez. -

Texas secedes and joins the Confederacy
Texas secedes with the Confederates away from the Union. It was a 171 to 6 vote and Sam Houston was one of the six opposed to the secession. -
Battle of Galveston- the Bayou City
Confederate forces under Maj. Gen. John B. Magruder attacked the most imporant seaport in Texas, the city of Galveston. The Union blocade was destroyed after four days, and Galveston remained in Confederate hands for the remainder of the war.
