Homestead Act
A law signed by Abraham Lincoln. It was to give land to the farmers at low cost. The amount of land that was bought was so big that some became public, it increased the agriculture in the U.S. -
Dakota War of 1862
A war Between European- Americans and the Dakota people. This war was because of lies in the treaties that were offered. It affected the Dakota community, they had no support the community was slowly breaking. -
Little Crow’s War
This was another war between white men and the Little Crow’s tribe. The reason for the war was the white men wanting to get revenge on the tribe. Little Crow was shot trying to save his son from being hunted. -
Cheyenne Uprising
A conflict involving the Fort Rise Treaty of 1861. The tribe encountered many survival struggles like starvation. They were badly effected to the point where they stole food from innocent people. -
Bear River Massacre
The U.S soldiers fought against the Shoshones tribe. The white settlers that moved in to their land was not allowing them to pass. In effect more than 400 people died -
Sand Creek Massacre
Both the Indians and voulenteers wanted the control of the East Colorado Great Plains. Black Kettle was a leader that survived and ended up being in charge of the Indian Territory. -
Red Cloud’s War
Red Cloud was an Indian from an tribe who wanted the white settlers to stop killing the rest of the tribes. Many small wars occurred between the white settlers and the tribes where more than 100 Indians died, Red Cloud was a warrior who still continued to fight for the tribes. He became a leader for the Indians. -
Fetterman Massacre
A battle in the Powder River County. Batteling to protect the travelers of the Bozeman Trail. This disagreement created tribal alliances. -
Pratt Boarding School
A school founded by Richard Henry Pratt. It was created to teach the Native American Indians the white culture and the difference with their culture as well as how to blend in with the whites. It made the Indians feel like they weren’t smart, the school affected how their self-esteem. -
Fort Laramie Treaty
This was an agreement signed between the U.S and specific tribes. It gave them ownership of the Black Hills. It impacted the west side of the Missippi River. -
Completion of Trans-Cont R.R
The first railroad of the U.S a route from Nebraska to California. It took worker 15 hour a day to build and was built for easier transportation. The West had better shipping to the East, this was a big part in the settlement for the West. -
Indian Appropriations Act
This act was leagalizing the Indian Territory. It was to allow the Indians to migrate and hunt. It impacted the migration in California. -
Camp Grant, AZ Apache massacre
Another war between white men and Native Indians. The cause of this war was because of livestock struggles and the lack of resources. Unfortunately it brought new diseases to the Native Americans. -
Great Sioux War
This war was because the tribes wanted the protect their natrual resources, The government was not understanding. The trail was given to the Sioux Tribes. -
Battle of Little Bighorn
A fight between the Army of the leader George Armstrong Custer and the Indian tribes. The fight was caused when gold was found near the tribes and their refusal to move. The tribes won the number of people in the army was small compared to the Native Americans. -
The Lakota War
The Lakota and Northern Cheyenne tribes fought. It was because of not being able to negotiate hunting land. They continued to protect their land and were able to divide it. -
Desert Land Act
The act was for settlement in specific areas, the semi-arid regions. It was to allow more purchase of land. It effected it by adding more money to the cost. -
Capture of Nez Perce
The Nez Perce leader was captured. Chief Joseph who tried to escape many times along with the warriors aside him fought in the war of 1877. They won and were able to regain a territory. -
Battle of Lincoln
A fight between the murder of Lincoln and people who claimed they wanted justice for Lincoln's death. It resulted in many deaths from both sides and left a wandering of which side was wrong. -

A book written by Helen Hunt Jackson that reflected on the unfairness towards the Native Americans. A book created hoping to change the government. More people became involved and wanted fairness toward the Indians. It had to change the government. -
Bill Cody's "Wild West Show"
A show that opened in the year of 1883. A dramatic narrative show that featured important events in the West. It impacted the understanding of the events like the Civil War. -
Capture of Geronimo
Geronimo escaped leaving the fault of his actions to General Crook. When the truth was discovered the search was on to destroy Geronimo and the Indians that were with him. Laws were added in order to capture Geronimo. -
Dawes Act
The act gave land to the Indains. It was for protcetion laws that the U.S needed for differnt purposes. -
Edmunds-Tucker Act
This was a law against the polygamy act. It gave the government congress and certain power. It effected the tax on farmers. -
Yosemite National Park
The first national park of the United States. The congress and president Benjamin Harrison agreed to having the park built. The Gold Rush brought a lot of Native Americans. -
Wounded Knee Massacre
The cause was conflicts between the U.S government and Native American Indians. In the year of 1890 a total of 150 Native Americans died. -
Forest Reserve Act
It was an act allowing the president to use public land for forests. It was to begin the national forest system just like the national parks were started. They faced many environmental struggles. -
Turner Thesis
This was addressed to Chicago by Federic Jackson Turner talking about the expansion. It explained the development of the Westward expansion. This imapcted about how the expansion was talked about, and how important it became.
