Selective Service Act
May 18 1917 Congress passed the Selective Service Act. This act eventually required all men between the ages of 21 to 45 to register for military service. In 2016 women were included in the act. -
Flu Broke Out
Flu broke out during the war on March 11, 1918. More than 675,000 Americans died of influenza in 1918, 45,000 of them being soldiers. -

Alice's Death
Alice Leona Mikel Duffield died at the age of 105. She lived in Tennessee. She was the oldest woman in her state, dying April 14, 2002.
