In May of 334 BCE, Alexander entered Anatolia to follow his father's dream of conquering the Persian Empire. King Darius III underestimates Alexander and sends little troops; Alexander quickly wins the battle. -

Alexander and Darius III meet at Issus
In November 333 BCE, Alexander and Darius III met at Issus. This time, Darius brought a bigger army but was still defeated by Alexander and his phalanx formation. Darius escaped, but Alexander caught his wife and children. -

Darius Attempts a Peace Treaty
Later, after his family is captured, Darius offers a peace treaty to Alexander. Darius offered the land west of the Euphrates River in return for his family back. Alexander refused and decided to continue to fight. -

Alexander Battles Darius for the Last Time
Alexander and Darius meet in Guagamela. Again, Darius knows that he cannot win and leaves. Darius later dies of an illness, and Alexander becomes King of Persia. -

Alexander Conquers Ancient Egypt
In 331 BCE, Alexander marched into Egypt. While he is there, Alexander founds a city named Alexandria. Later, Alexander was proclaimed the son of Zeus-Ammon. Alexander also let the Egyptians keep their religion and customs. -

Alexander Marries
In 327 BCE, Alexander marries Darius III's daughter, Roxanne, and eventually convinces his soldiers and people to marry Persians as well. -

Alexanders End
Alexander heads to India to conquer it and add it to his nation. His soldiers plead to go home, Alexander obliges, and on his way back to Greece, he becomes ill and dies at the age of 32 in Babylon (Iraq).
