Chapter Five-Hope once again...
After a couple of bee injuries and a feast of honey, Salva’s group sets out again and Salva befriends a boy named Marial. After nearly a month of walking after running away from his school, Salva hear his name being called by someone…who was not Marial. Saliva turned and was amazed. So amazed, in fact, he could not speak. -
Chapter One-The beginning
Salva, an 11 year old schoolboy who wants to go home from school suddenly experiences an attack by a group of people and is forced to flee his school and run away. Away from home. -
Chapter Three-Hope is regained
After Salva is left alone he discovers an old lady of his tribe and he stays with her while sleeping in her barn. She soon tells him that she is leaving for the dry season. Salva is filled with despair since it is too dangerous for him to go with her but after her departure he hears the voices of other people. One look at their scarring patterns and he knows that they are of his tribe as well. Could his family be with them? -
Chapter Ten-bad timing
The few surviving men revive and join Salva’s group and Salva’s group gets robbed-Uncle gets shot three times by the robbers. -
Chapter Four-The walk continues
Salva joins the group of Dinka people that sadly, does not contain his family, and sets out towards nowhere. Other groups of people from other tribes join the group and Buska, a young man from a different tribe, spots a beehive and aids in getting it down for food. -
Chapter Seven-Crossing over
Marial has been killed by a lion in the dead of night and Salva,grieving, is now terrified of the world around him. The group walks on until they reach the Nile which they need to cross to get Ethiopia-a safe place. They build boats over the span of two days and will cross the river in another two days. Will they make it through? -
Chapter Eight-A break before the belly of the beast
Salva’s group reaches the island in the middle of the river where the fishermen live and Salva feasts with his uncle though many other people have to beg for food since they don’t have money. After a mosquito-filled night the group reaches the desert-the last and most difficult stage of their journey. -
Chapter Nine-How to give spirit
Salva’s foot is stabbed with a thorn and Salva struggles to continue walking through the desert, but Uncle encourages him and helps him get through the day. The next day, the group finds a pile of exhausted men nearing death and a woman from Salva’s group, despite the protests of a man from Salva’s group, gives the surviving men water to revive them. -
Chapter Eleven-Arrival
After Uncle’s death, Salva and the group grieve for a day but later continue their walk soon reaching the refugee camp in Ethiopia. Salva sees a familiar orange headscarf that belongs to his mother. -
Chapter Twelve-With realization comes sadness
Salva realizes that the woman with the orange scarf is not his mother and he is filled with despair when he recognizes that he is now left alone without family or friends. -
Chapter Two-To lose hope
After Salva attempts to escape from the attack he and a group of people from his village get captured by the rebels, a group of people that go against the Sudanese government, and they set up camp after walking for awhile to rest and sleep. After the night Salva awakes to an empty barn (where he slept). They had left him all alone. -
Chapter Six-...is diminished
Salva finds his uncle and soon finds out that his uncle is in charge of the group. Salva’s uncle hunts an antelope and Salva feast but soon vomits for he had gotten to used to hunger. Salva falls asleep from exhaustion but is awoken by his uncle bearing terrible news. -

Chapter Thirteen
Salva and the refugees are forced to swim across the river, only to be shot, drowned, or killed by the crocodiles in the river. Salva decided to be brave and escorted twelve hundred boys to Kenya-a safe haven. -
Chapter Twelve #2-Time does not heal
Six years after Salva arrives at the refugee camp he is told that it is shutting down due to the Ethiopian government being near collapse and is then forced to flee back to Sudan over the crocodile- filled torrents of the Gilo River. -

Chapter Fifteen
Salva and the group of young men, now called the Lost Boys, head out to America. Salva arrives at Rochester, NY and meets his new family. -
Chapter Fourteen
Salva, now 22 years old, decides to leave the refugee camp in search for another due to the poor treatment he received there. He discovered, though, that it is no different than before except that this time, some young men will be chosen to go to America-and Salva was one of them. -

Salva spends seven years in Rochester before going to see his father. -
Chapter Sixteen-Opportunities inspire chances
Salva finds life slightly difficult in Rochester but is enjoying himself. That is, until he finds out his father is ill. He immediately makes plans to go see his father, but he is troubled by difficulty of the journey and whether or not his father would be alive when he got there. -
Chapter Seventeen-Memories...
Salva meets his father and finds out that his family is all alive-all except for two of his brothers. -

After going back to Rochester, Salva decides to make a project for South Sudan, and day by day, he is reaching his goal-and it has been four years. -

Chapter Three-A price not well paid
Nya fills up her water tank after taking a drink of the muddy water herself. -
Chapter Four-Responsibility is no help
Nya brings the water that she brought to her house, has a quick meal, and sets out again to fetch more water-this time, with her little sister who is sure to slow her down. -
Chapter One-To be exhausted
Nya, a girl living in Southern Sudan, walks along a hot dry path to (presumably) collect water. -
Chapter Two-Difficulty
Nya steps on a throne while going to collect water. -
Chapter Five-The burden
Nya reveals that her tribe is the Nuer, the rival tribe for Dinka. Nya’s main job is to fetch water for everyone. All the time. -
Chapter Seven-At a crossroads
Nya’s little sister, Akeer, has a potentially deadly illness and must take medicine to get better. However, the doctor is a long walk away-Should Nya risk her sisters health and take the walk, or should she hope she gets better with rest at home? -
Chapter Nine-Sudden change
Two strange men came to Nya’s village speaking of water to the village leader. -
Chapter Ten-To believe
The two visitors in Nya’s village point out a spot with apparent water. -
Chapter Eleven-The work begins
Nya and her village must clear out the land in the area of supposed water and they wonder how there could be water in such a place. -
Chapter Six-Difference should not be opposed
Nya prefers the lake camp since it only took one trip to get water but she soon finds out that her mother hates it because she has to live in fear everyday of whether or not everyone is going to make it out alive from being so near the deadly Dinkas. -
Chapter Eight-Quantity is not quality
Nya’s sister is feeling better after being taken to a tent for sick people where she can be treated but her mother finds out that they now have to boil their little water (since Akeer got sick from it) meaning that they would have almost none to drink. Also, Nya cannot stop herself and her sister from drinking from the contaminated water once they reach it since they walk for a long time. What will happen to them? -
Chapter Eighteen-Convergence
The water in Nya’s village came out clean and cold and there was talk of development. Dep is astounded by the crew leader-he was a Dinka, the tribe that had fought with Nuer for many years. Curious, Nya approached him and talked to him. He, a kind man, told Nya that his name is Salva. -
Chapter Twelve-progression
People come to Nya’s village to drill a hole for water. -
Chapter Thirteen-Suspicions
Nya is confused by how the workers needed water to drill for water. -
Chapter Sixteen-More new changes
Nya’s village begins clearing out an area to build…something. -
Chapter Fourteen-Is it a job well done?
first sprout of brown, muddy water finds its way out of the earth in Nya’s village and Nya is concerned. -
Chapter Fifteen-The work continues
Dep, Nya’s older brother, assures Nya that once the workers dig deep enough into the earth, clean water will come out- but Nya still must get water from the pond. -
Chapter Seventeen-Delight
Nya’s village is building a school and Nya is overjoyed.
