French and Indian War
This French and Indian war was one of many. It was a war between the French and Indians versus the British. They were fighting over land they both claimed to be their territory. The British ended up winning the war and took control of Canada and about all of the French territory in North America. This is where the beginning of the road to the American Revolution is. -
Stamp Act
The Stamp Act was a tax put on paper good by Britian on America. This act was extremely hated by Americans. They felt it was unfair to be taxed without any say in the matter. Their slogan was "no taxation without representation" This was an event that further pushed the colonists into fighting for their independence. -
Boston Massacre
The Boston massacre was a riot that turned deadly. The colonists and British were on the street, and the British shot at the colonists. They killed 5 and injured 6 colonists. This was when the fighting between the British and colonists because deadly, making it another step towards a revolution. -
Tea Act
The tea act was a way for the British to gain control of selling tea to the colonists. They reduced the tax on imported tea for the East India Company, meaning the British sellers could sell their tea to colonists for a lot cheaper. Meaning people would only buy tea from the British, This helped them gain even more control in the colonies. This caused more anger, and led to more events that contributed to the revolution. -
Boston Tea Party
This event was caused by the backlash of the tea act. The colonists were angry about the tax on the tea. So, some colonists dressed up as Indians, went onto the ships with the tea, and dumped the tea into the Boston Harbor. Britain was very angry about this they saw it as a threat to British rule and this event led to the Intolerable Acts. -
Intolerable Acts
The Intolerable Acts were four acts made by the British Parliament to punish the colonists. The four acts were- The Boston Fort Bill which closed the Boston Harbor. The Massachusetts Government Act, which replaced elective government with appointed officials. The Administration Of Justice Act, which allowed British officials that committed crimes in America to be charged in Britain. Lastly, the Quarting Act, which made it so colonists had to house British soldiers when requested. -
First Continental Congress
A meeting of delegates from 12 of the 13 colonies to figure out the resistance against the British. They declared colonists should have the same rights as British. They also stopped trade with Britain. -
Second Continental Congress
The second continental Congress was another meeting of the delegates but there were also more people this time like Thomas Jefferson, John Hancock, etc. This one was divided, some people wanted to reconcile with the British, some wanted to fight for independence. John Dickinson urges a petition, and John Adams urges independence. At the end John Adams appoints George Washing to lead continental army. -
Battles Of Lexington and Concord
The Battles of Lexington and Concord were known as the Start of the American WAR for independence. It made many more Americans want to join the fight for independence. No one knows who shot the first shot, but many colonists were killed and even more injured. This event was very bad politically for the British. -
Deceleration Of Independence
The Deceleration Of Independence was at the end of the revolution. 1/3 of the american colonists were patriots/wanted independence. The slogan "Join or step aside" was about the Deceleration Of Independence. The Deceleration was to express the complaints and the meaning behind there wanting to leave the British. The declaration was passed July 4, 1776, and was signed by the colonies.
