System 1
The first Macintosh had System 1, which had features such as a desktop, icons, menus, windows and mouse pointer. It was not possible to work with two applications at the same time, since it had no virtual memory. -
System 2
This version improved the speed of the Finder. It also had new options for creating folders and displayed icons in a column. Therefore, it can extract disks. -
System 3
Replaced the HFS file system with MSF, this impruvement increase the number of folders that could be created. It also included a zoom icon to change the size of the windows. -
System 4
Macintosh SE and Macintosh II versions were added, which added support for the monitor. Also, in this version the Finder was able to support several programs. -
System 6
Colors were added and programs were allowed to launch notifications from the menu bar. -
System 7
RAM memory was expanded, allowing multitasking functions to be implemented. Also, new software was added including Quick Time, Apple Talk, Apple Share. In addition, a help menu was implemented, which improved the recycle garbage can and the ability to drag text between programs. -
Mac OS 8
The Finder was updated, which made it look more modern and more customizable. Web Sharing allowed users to host pages on their computer. Sherlock was implemented, which was a program that performed advanced searches locally and on the network. -
Mac OS 9
Different user accounts could be added with their own settings and files. Software updates were enhanced with Software Update. -
Mac OS X 10.0 "Chetaah"
The features of a modern OS were implemented, which protected the memory, and it was possible to download and load the necessary drivers, as well as protect the memory. The graphical interface was similar to previous versions. -
Mac OS X 10.1 "Puma"
It was implemented mainly for Mac 63 computers, where it included updates to specific components and fixed the bugs that were found in the past systems. -
Mac OS X 10.3 “Panther”
The performance of the operating systems was improved and the graphical interface was updated, however, this version was not available for G3 computers. The main feature was the fast user switching, which allowed to start several sessions of different users at the same time. -
Mac OS X 10.4 “Tiger”
It was not available for commercially available MAC computers at the time, as they had to be FireWire enabled to work. Some of the features included in this version were Spotlight and Dashboard. Also the graphical interface was redesigned and Safari was defined as the default browser. -
MAC OS X 10.5 “Leopard”
It was compatible with PowerPC and Intel computers, came with integrated time machine, mail 3 and Braille display support. -
MAC OS X 10.6 “Snow Leopard”
Implemented the use of the touchpad for Chinese characters, the use of Grand Central technology, automatic time zone adjustment and reduced hard disk space consumption. -
MAC OS X 10.7 “Lion”
Implemented applications such as FaceTime, which allows video calls, and MAC App Store, available to people over 13 years of age in the USA. -
MAC OS 10.8 “Mountain Lion”
It creates automatic synchronization of iWork files through iCloud. In addition, it includes iMessage, which allows sending messages between MAC users. Implements Game Center, which allows you to share with other iOS game users the scores you are achieving. -
Mac OS X 10.9 "Mavericks"
First free version of the operating system, improved energy efficiency and memory management. -
Mac OS X 10.10 "Yosemite"
Redesigned the interface to align with iOS, introduced Continuity for a seamless experience between Apple devices. -
macOS 10.12 "Sierra"
Name change to “macOS”, introduced Siri on Mac, universal clipboard and Apple Pay in Safari. -
macOS 10.13 "High Sierra"
Implemented the APFS file system and improved graphics with Metal 2. -
macOS 10.15 "Catalina"
It removed support for 32-bit apps, split iTunes into separate apps, and introduced Sidecar for using an iPad as a second screen. -
macOS 11 "Big Sur"
Redesigned the interface, introduced the Control Center and was the first version compatible with Apple Silicon chips. -
macOS 12 "Monterey":
Introduced Universal Control for using a single mouse and keyboard between Mac and iPad, and the Shortcuts app. -
macOS 13 "Ventura"
Introduced Stage Manager for window organization, improvements in Mail and the ability to use the iPhone as a webcam. -
macOS 14 "Sonoma"
Added desktop widgets, animated wallpapers and lock screen improvements. -
macOS 15 "Sequoia"
introduced iPhone Mirroring to control the iPhone from the Mac, improvements in window management and the integration of Apple Intelligence, an AI that is expected to be available in Spanish in 2025.
