Act Of Union
In 1840 Upper Canada and Lower Canada were joined into one. They became known as Canada. It was reccomended by Lord Durham in his report called The Durham Report. He believed it would help with the construction of the canals while it would help Lower Canada erase its debt. This merge was put to action by the British Court on July 23rd 1840. -
Responsible Government
Once Lord Elgin's bill (The Rebellion Losses Report) had been signed, responsible government had been won for Upper and Lower Canada. -
The Rebellion Losses Bill
The Rebellion Losses Bill was a bill written by Lord Elgin. It suggested compensating all those in Lower Canada whose property and belongings had been damaged by the rebellion. It was signed on April 25th 1849. -
Charlottetown conference
Charlottetown conferece takes place. It consisted of the Maritime colonies. -
Quebec conference
Quebec conference takes plase. The issue of confederation is spoken about. This was the second conference that took place. -

British North America Act of 1867
The London conference is held. It was the final stage of translating th 72 resolutions of 1864 into legislation. The result was the British North America Act of 1867 ( now called the Constitution Act of 1867) It then passed through the british parliament and was signed by Queen Victoria on March 29th 1867. Later proclaimed into law on July 1st 1867 -
