Right now Salva is running from the soldiers because he does not want to get shot. He finally ran all the way to his village. He went towards the men's group, but a soldier came up to him and told him that he was to young to be a man. So he went to the woman's group. Later that day, he was sent into a barn to sleep. He woke up in the middle of the night and he realized that he was all alone. They had left him all alone. -

Salva is eleven years old and has to walk 30 minutes to get to school. During one day of school, there were shots fired. -

Salva was looking for his family, but all he could see were strangers. An old woman was asking people if Salva could go with them, but they all said that he would just slow them down, and that he wouldn't be able to find any food for them. An old woman an gave Salva some peanuts and water to survive. Salva kept on asking himself, "Where is my family?". -

In this chapter Salva is Walking with his tribe, the Dinka, and then he steps on someones foot. They started talking to each other, then became friends. The friend's name was Marial. He said that they were walking east to Ethiopia. Then as they were walking, Salva found someone from his family. -

In this chapter, Salva and his uncle are travailing to get to Akobo. Salva had to walk a long way and his lips were very dry and hi shoes were about to fall off. -

In this chapter, Salva;s uncle gets tied up on a tree. Later that day, Salva's uncle was killed and then the man ran away so they wouldn't be acused. -
Southern Sudan and Ethiopia 1985, Salva
Salva shows perseverance in this chapter when, he is very sad because the men have killed his Uncle and then they buried him. He knew that uncle would have wanted him to keed walking and not stop and morn. So Salva decided to keep walking in honor of his uncle. -

The change that Salva overcomes is that he know knows for a fact that his family has forever passed away. He now has to take that in. -

Salva is very confused why he was left all alone. As he goes to walk out of the barn, Salva sees a house with a lady sitting in the sun. He realized that she was from his tribe the Dinka. Later on the older woman has to leave because it is turning into dry season. Then he ends up seeing faces, but not very clearly. He thinks it could be his family because they were Dinka people too! -

In chapter 6, Salva meets his uncle. Salva has not seen his uncle in two years because he was in the army. Salva is sad because he thinks he has lost all hope to find his family. -

In this chapter, Salva is making sure that he will never lose his uncle ever again by hanging on tho him like a little baby. Salva thinks that Marial has gone. He thinks he was killed by a lion. Salva's uncle is trying to tell him that he has a gun and that they will stay safe. -

In this chapter, like all the other chapters, Salva is very worried. Salva and his uncle found some where that has much food and they are exicted because this is the most food they have seen in a while. Everyone had to beg for food. Salva and his uncle were given free fish because the fishermen were scared of his gun. As the night approached, many mosquitoes filled the air, maybe even millions of them. Every time Salva killed the pesky fly, hundreds more came along. -

In the next six years, Salva has not changed very much because Salva is running out of the camp because everyone is being kicked out. He is running out like he is very scared. -

Salva found a boy that had been under water and when he came up all he could see was a red pool of water. People were being chased. They were being shot at and pushed in the river. Almost 1,000 people died that day. After the first day, Salva was now the leader of about 15 hundred boys. All Salva could think about was his siblings, but not how they were now, but when he last saw them. -

Ifo refuge camp, Kenya, 1992-96
Salva is now twenty-two years old. He has been living in many refuge camps. One of them, Kakuma, was very dreadful. So he decided to leave to camp. when Salva reached Ifo, he soon realized that it was no different them Kakuma. Salva tried to find a job, but he had not much luck. Salva tried to learn English from some of the refuges. SO one of the refuges slowly taught him. So people would be chosen to go to America. And after a while, Salva was finally chosen. -
Nairobi, Kenya-Rochester, New York, 1996 Salva
Slava and his group members were called the lost boys in America. The people in America gave them much clothing to keep warm. It was winter in the U.S. Now salva was on the plane to New York. This is his first time here and he is very over whelmed because there is so much to look at. He is reminiscing back to when his father brought home a few bottles of coca-cola from the market. They offered him and his group members many things to eat and drink. He was given a new family to live with. -

Rochester, New York, 1996-2003 Salva
Salva has been in New York for almost a month. Salva had a hard time believing that this was his new life. Salva has had a hard time learning English. His new father taught him how to speak in this new language. Then Salva gets a email from his cousin. It said that his father was alive, but he was having a stomach surgery. He tried to get a plane ticket to Southern Sudan. When he got back to Sudan, He realized how big of a difference Sudan was from New York. -

Sudan and Rochester, New York, 2003-2007
Salva met his father in the clinic, but his father didn't seem to remember him. Salva tried to convince his father that it was him, but his father denied and said it was impossible. But when his father realized that it was really him, he started to sob in joy. His father blessed him with water because that is what the Dinka's do when they see someone that they haven't seen in years. Salva just got news that his mother was still alive. -
Southern Sudan, Nya
Nya has to get water for her family. This takes about half of her morning. She has many obstacles along the way. Such as heat, time, and thorns. -

Right now Nya is still walking to get water. She sits down to take a break from the thorns. She has no shoes at all so when ever she walks, she hurts herself. She is in a lot of pain. -

The water around Nya is very dirty. If she gets tiered during her walk, Nya has to drink dirty water with dirt in it. -

Nya has finally come home with the water. Nya ate her meal and then want to the pond. Nya was going to the pond and back for a very long time. -

Nya has to go get water every day for five months. She cant even get the water from a good water source. She has to get the water from the ground. Nya has to dig with her hands to get water. -

In chapter 6 we meet Nya's father, and her older brother Dep. They are hunters. Nya's mother was worried that the men would get ingured. -

Nya's family had taking her little sister to the doctors by to try and make her feel better. The nurse explained to her mother that Akeer's sickness came from the water. Now Nya is very worried. -

Nya followed the men that were talking. They stopped at a tree close to Nya's house, and started talking about her uncle. Now one man was talking in another language so Nya couldn't understand him. But then he starting talking in a language that Nya could understand. -

Int this chapter, Nya doesn't believe that they will find water so fast becuase if the water was so easy to find, then why didn't people in her village get it from here and not hours away. -

In this chapter, Nya's little sister is ill. She was hurting in the stomach a couple days earlier. Nya knew that what her little sister had could be dangerous to kids around her age. Some children starve to death even if they have food right in front of them. Nya's uncle knew that the doctors could give her sister medicine to help her get better. -

In this chapter, Nya was wondering what the chief was saying. Her and her brother Dep thought that they were talking about water. -

In this chapter, Nya talks about the Iron Giraffe. This "iron giraffe" she is referring to is a very big crane in her village. She only knows animals because she lives in the desert and there is not much technology. -

Nya was watching the people drill into the ground to get water. The bag broke so many times, that they stopped trying to get water. So they left. -

For the next couple of days, all Nya could here was the sound of the drill. As Nya was playing with the kids, she heard a big WHOOSH! A big spray of water shot in the air. This water was from coming from out of the hole. Everyone was so joyful to see the water. But Nya was sad. The water was not clean are clear water. Its was dirty and muddy. -

The water is still spraying out of the borehole. And it was still brown and muddy. Her older brother tried to explain to her that the water will be clean again soon. They have to dig deeper to try and get clean water. They would not be able to drink the water for a couple more days. -

The villagers were very exited to see the water. She asked her father what was going on. He said that he was building something. -

Nya's father is building a school. Nya was very happy to have a school being built. Nya also found out that the school would be a boys and a girls school. -

Nya was waiting her turn to get the water. They well was finally finished. Nya's dad had decided to name the school "Elm Street School". He named it this because that was the school in America that had helped raise money for the new well. Nya's uncle helped her get clean water from the well for the first time. This well was a celebration. Everyone was so happy. Then after a while, Nya met this man. And believe it or not, This man was Salva. Salva from the lost boys.
