Plessy V Ferguson Law
This was the law that made segregation legal and said that it was necessary but all Black and white Americans would receive the same treatment. This started most of the Jim Crow Laws. “Separate, but equal.” -
Brown v Board of Education Court Case
The NAACP spent decades fighting about the racial segregation that students were being treated with in schools. They were meant to be receiving the same materials to learn, but predominantly Black schools were severely poverty struck. Brown and the NAACP won the Supreme Court case. -
Rosa Parks Arrested which causes the Bus Boycott
Rosa Parks was a Black woman who refused to give her seat up to a white man. She was arrested after riding for a few more stops. This then sparked the Montgomery Bus Boycott where Black Americans refused to ride any city busses. They walked to and from work. -
Little Rock Nine
In Little Rock, Arkansas, Nine Black Students arrived at Central High School to attend classes. Those kids were then met by the state National Guard, a screaming group of white people, and the mayor the town who were yelling at them to leave. -
Civil Rights Act 1957
President Eisenhower sent the proposal for a new law on Civil Rights. This act granted lawyers and federal prosecutors to pursue anyone who stopped people from registering to vote. -
