This amendment stated that neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction. Pretty much what this amendment did was abolish slavery and make it illegal in the United States. This is very important because we can now have more people be a part of our society guilt free. -
This amendment says the right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any States on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude. This amendment is a huge breaking point behind the 13th amendment that now gives African Americans the right to vote. . The importance of this is that now every citizen in the united states can voice there opinion through voting. -

This was another major step of African Americans in their fight for freedom and equality. The importance of this act is that African Americans could pretty much do anything and everything that a white person could. -
This voting act was very similar to the 15th amendment in its wording. Tis act made it illegal to deny African Americans the right to vote just because of there color. This act worked in conjunction with the 15th amendment to help African Americans to vote. The Voting Rights Act had an immediate impact. By the end of 1965, a quarter of a million new Black voters had been registered. This was important because the more people that state their mind the better we can grow as a country. -
The Fair housing act prohibited discrimination by direct providers of housing, such as landlords and real estate companies as well as other entities whose discriminatory practices make housing unavailable to African Americans. This act made it so that landlords couldn't raise the process or denied housing just because someone was of a darker color or race. This is important because African Americans can now live just as good as a life as white people. -
The black lives matter movement was made to support the development of new Black leaders, as well as to create a network where Black people feel empowered to determine our destinies in our communities. This is important because it gave African Americans something to fight for and stayed motivated to keep growing in equality. -
This decision made it legal for two people of the same sex to get married. With the correct licenses and papers two people of the same sex can get married just like two people of different sexes. This is important to some people because they feel they are better connected to society and aren't treaded differently just because of there marriage preferences. -
The problem here is that the Dakota Access pipeline is causing major problems to ecosystems. To generate momentum for their cause and demonstrate their opposition to the pipeline, the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe organized runs, horseback rides, and marches. This can be very important because by bringing light to the effects of this pipeline, many people may decide that we would be better off stopping the building of the pipeline. -
This sparked after the death of George Floyd. People became outraged after the death of this man a felt a need to protest for racial equality. This was important because it showed how African Americans are still discriminated against and that we need to take actions to solve this problem. -
