Trust vs Mistrust
Happens from birth to around 18 months.
Kacey's primary caregiver ignores her when she is clearly distressed and upset. This feeling of neglect and isolation means Kacey will feel disconnected to her family and won't build up trust towards them. Leading her to feel unsafe in her environment. -
Initiative vs Guilt
Around 3-6 years.
Kacey is allowed to play and explore outside in the yard during play time.
Initiative is developed when children are allowed to explore and discover things themselves. It allows them to learn from their mistakes and learn right from wrong. Guilt is caused when children are punished for making mistakes and are not allowed to have their own freedom. -
Identity vs Confusion
Happens between 12-20.
Kacey joins different clubs to figure out what she enjoys and where she fits in.
If someone struggles to identify themselves and find somewhere they fit in they may begin to feel confused and isolated.
